You're OK so it's OK...
Jay has been telling me for weeks now how he is gonna shoot this poker run... " I'm gonna strap my d200 with the wide angle on the monopod to the embankment and set it on time lapse or remote shutter, I'm then gonna use the harness I have for hanging out of Heli's and dangle in the water to shoot the boats coming by at water level... I'm getting some new and different shots from this run..."
New and different yes, but certainly not what you had in mind
Jay, I'm putting my backup d300 in the mail for you to use until you get a new gun, along with a check for $200.00. If anyone else wants to match my contribution I'll send you a 24" x 36" poster of any one of my or Jay's photos. ( provided that Jay will send me the digital, but I think he will...)
Jays talent adds so much to this site with his outstanding and numerous photos, I'm just a lurker by comparison... He's a great guy and a great friend, I'm glad to hear all that was lost was some hardware, the main thing is that your OK.
Catch up with you soon,
Bruce

Sorry. It was taken earlier today and kindly forwarded to me by one of my rescuers.
On the positive side, it wasn't 'all' the gear, just most of the good stuff-
two camera bodies, two high-end lenses, 5 batteries, remote trigger, memory cards, tripod...
I did manage to save the camera bag.

LMAO. Thanks for the chuckle, Paul.
I borrowed an aluminum jon boat to get out and shoot some water level shots of the guys in the FPC run to Islamorada today. The plan was to tie up to the structure and shoot from it (I know it's illegal- I was only planning to be there for 45 minutes). Water was too choppy and structure was waay too gnarly for a backside attack, so I went to Plan B...
If I have a camera in my hand, it's like Pavlov's dog for me when I hear big blocks and see roostertails coming my way.
When I saw that lead pack approaching I forgot where I was and just concentrated on them like I always do... I had psyched myself up all week to get some cool new shots, so it was kinda like I had been waiting for days... and I just got stupid for 15 or 20 seconds
I had positioned myself where (I thought) I would be far enough away from the channel, but the wind was stiff and blew me too close... when the first couple of wakes hit the bow of the boat it lifted it and a wave hit the stern about the same time. It was down instantly.
Feeling kinda stoopid right now.
