This the one I got.
http://www.harborfreight.com/1-ton-t...ane-41188.html Between the Northern Tool and Harbor Freight it came down to price. With a promo code I found (20% off) I went with the Harbor freight one and I ended up getting it to my house for less then the list price. Should be Monday. |
Just curious on who has used the gantrys with casters on them. How sturdy and solid is it with them on? Looks a lil flimsy to me.

On the sability - we had the engine in the air and I pulled the trailer & boat out from under it and accidentally snagged the leg of the hoist - all I could do was look in the rearview mirror and watch the trolley and engine slide to the end of the beam and slam into the side, scared the hell out of me but the crane didn't even seem to be bothered. Luckily it didn't hit the headers!! Mine is the 1 ton crane from HF. |

About 160 bucks for typing in a code. I'll use one for that kind of money any day.

1 Ton Telescoping Gantry Crane 41188 1 - $559.99
Subtotal - $559.99 Shipping & Handling - $89.95 Tax - $33.60 Grand Total - $683.54 ________________________________________ This was after my 20% discount List price was 699. So I didn't do to bad. Funny thing was northern tools would not match it. They kept trying to push their 110% money back guarantee on the same product. Problem was they don't have the same product. |

I have a slight down pitch to my driveway so I will be truing it with some blocks of wood. It will be left in one place and the boat will move. Wheels will be used just to push it around when not in use.
thats what i figured BIG Daddy , ours did'nt like rolling around the shop floor with that blower motor swinging from a chain  we ended up buying a bigger HD one and can roll that B!@tch down the block :lolhit: |

Could you save the shipping fee and still use the 20% by just going to a HF store?

The slight "down pitch" is part of what sent my engine sliding....

Mine has casters. I'd say they're a bit on the overkill side... lol
Plus the SS I-beam is overkill too... The downside is I need to have my gantry modified so I have 12 ft clearance. It's 10 ft and I have the casters off and it's up on blocks to get clearance to pull the engine "with out" the blowers on. |

:eek:HOLY CRAP BATMAN !
I was thinking about scraping the I-beam, replacing it with a steel beam or even aluminum, then use the difference to have the A-frames modified so I can get the clearance I need.:drink: |

The SS I-beam weighs a few hundred lbs... I can probably get more in scrap for the I-beam than I can for the whole gantry!

ours is adjustable for height , can't you shorten the legs and reweld plates for the rollers/wheels ?
I'm not a welder though so I'd have to get someone local to check it out for me. |

It's rated a 1 ton. A 454 with B/W tranny should only be around 1100lbs. So if it falls through the boat (and I don't think that would happen even if it did drop from 12' being the boat is built like a tank) I'm suing their f_in brains out. The best thing about this lift...........it's not yellow. :drink:;)
