STV - Merc 2.5/260hp OB - cruise ~80mph - 2mpg... WOT 111 mph 3.6mpg

Scarab - 2xOMC V8 OB's, 380hp - cruise 42-44 mph - 1mpg.. WOT 74mph - I don't want to know.

sunsation96 03-03-2011 01:44 PM

Okay I have a stupid question is your rates given per motor or is that both:party-smiley-004::readinghelp::stupid:
Ex. I get 1 MPG but I have 2 motors so that is .5 a side? I am not the fastest and have only had twins for a few months of use please help...

Griff 03-03-2011 02:30 PM

That is mpg total, not mpg per engine.

For me:
38 straight-bottom Top Gun, big cubic inch N/A's (800HP) with #6's.

I figured out last season that I average .88 mpg at cruise. 4000 rpm's is right around 60-62 depending on water conditions.

WOT.....don't want to know.

Craig

Great seeing you as well!!:drink: By the way we traveled over 500 miles last week between Boca and Key West and everywhere in between in my 35 cig!! It was a great 9 days!!:drink::drink:

apollard 03-03-2011 03:22 PM

Love this thread. I can now document I have a very fuel efficient boat :drink:

26' PowerQuest, 7.4L 330 hp BIII:
25 mph, 3.0 mpg
40 mph, 2.4 mpg
WFO 58 mph, 1.7 mpg

Jimmy,
Was burned out by Monday afternoon and left a little early. Let me know next time you are going to be at TNT and I will stop by to see the boat. Our facility is about 20min from TNT also.

Sport 280 03-03-2011 08:12 PM

28ft Baja Sport, twin 502s, 540hp, 3800 rpm 56.7 mph 26 Bravos, 1.4 mpg.

Still playing with props, best so far, 80, figure about .8 mpg, turning 5300 rpm.

Kind of hard to get this ole heavy sled to go!

custommarine 03-03-2011 11:41 PM

Just returned from a 500+ mile round trip to the Exumas last week in an 80' Lazzara and averaged 1300 feet per gallon with a pair of 1550 Cats at 30mph, not too bad considering it weights 100,000 pounds more than our old 50 Cary with four diesels that got 1680 feet per gallon loaded at the same speed. One of our clients recently told me they average 8 gallons per mile, or 660 feet per gallon, in their 196' boat at 12 knots cruise. In addition they run on 2 or 3 generators continuously and never plug in )unless hauled out) while sitting at the dock or anchor, which is about 25,000 gallons a year alone, without starting the main engines. A 747 aircraft burns 5 gallons per mile in comparison. It seems going very fast saves fuel, so I guess our sport is actually eco friendly in the big picture?

Dean Ferry 03-04-2011 06:10 AM

I not sure what the Nordic is, kinda don't want to know!:party-smiley-004:
But the Hydrostream gets about 3.5 mpg at 45 mph, that one of the reasons I love having that little "Ski" boat!

I'm interested in seeing some Ilmor owners post their #'s.

Just before going to the Miami Boat Show, I was on a cruise on the Oasis of the Seas. We attended a talk with the captain and a fact sheet was provided about the ship.

In reference to this thread - the ship gets 31 feet to the gallon. Refuels every 2 weeks with 200,000 gallons of fuel at a cost of $1.4 million. Two 12 cylinder and two 16 cylinder diesel engines produce 130,000 HP.

The Oasis at double occupancy holds 5,400 passengers and is capable of holding 6,296 passengers. Plus a crew of 2,165.

Cost to build Oasis: $1.4 billion:eekdrop:

Many more facts were provided.:cool-smiley-011:

2.2-2.5 MPG between 40-70 Mph computed over 4 150mile trip legs.

(Boat will go 90 but I have no fuel data at that sustained speed)

Single engine Ilmor 710. Bravo drive Teague platinum mods.
Spinning a 4 blade 28.

boat is a Laveycraft 2750 (28.8ft long)

Philm 03-04-2011 04:31 PM

I worked on a newbuild DP Drilling rig last year. We left the shipyard in Singapore on October 16, 2009 and made it to the Gulf on Jan 17, 2010, all running under our own power. 8 5160kW Generators, 8 Rolls Royce azimuth drives running wide open, total of 40,000HP. We averaged 6.5 knots for the entire trip, including a few stops to fuel up and resupply and crew change.

The entire trip was a grand total of 13,185miles.

We burned a grand total of.........2,186,515 gallons of diesel!!

So that is .006mpg, or 1 gallon of diesel every 36 feet.

Uncle Dave 03-04-2011 09:17 PM

RHR and Phil are having quite the consumption "rumble".

I wonder what how that norwegian "tow Rig" that carried the USS cole back "ranks".

That heavy lift ship, The M/V Blue Marlin BTW, will certainly burn some fuel, but very little is going to compete with the rig I was on for overall fuel consumption at speed. We would burn 10-12,000 a day just to stay in one place.:lolhit: And that was while on standby. When the drilling package was operating, that increased to 15,000 a day. Everyday.

Just amazing although I guess its a bit like a "breeder" reactor recovering fuel while using fuel.

Between the Oasis RHR speaks of, and this thing you've got the combined consumption of a small country.

Dean- I'm pretty amazed at how cheap the setup runs. A trip to and from Catalina Island is less expensive than an Imax movie. Ilmors are also supposed to last an extraordinarily long time.

Now I just need to find the time to go enjoy it- I'm coming off a 90 hour 6 day week and practically catatonic.
