Default Any boats with a single diesel?

Are there any sport boats out there with a single diesel engine? Would a single in a 28-30' boat work? Or are they better suited for larger boats with twin engines?

Thanks

They work fine, but what is your idea of "sport", how fast is top end & cruise?

Lets say top speed at least 60 MPH and a minimum cruising speed of 45 MPH

I noticed you have a fuel thing in your avatar. What do you know about running veggie oil in a diesel engine? What exactly is bio diesel? Is it made with mixing oils with diesel fuel?

KN,, im sure there are alot of OSO members much more qualified too answer this,, but I haven't come across a single diesel and mainly see them on cruisers, yachts etc... seem to be slower on the top end... was just reading the article on a twin NorTech Vee and Elim 43 eagle,, both drove great,, but lacked the top/end speed.....

Anyone know?....

IMCO rigged a Duramax in a 21' Nordic to test a new drive they were developing. I think they got close to 80mph...

LOL! No, Xfuel has nothing to do with real fuel it's my son's energy drink company.

Bio-fuels, I know nothing about them really other than we use B-20 in the generators when a customer wants to be socially aware and "green"

KN - here's the deal it's all about prop speed and nothing else. You put a single diesel in a 28' boat that truns 3,000 rpms and get it to a direct drive so the prop speed is 3,000 you'll hit 70 mph. You get a higher speed diesel say 3,400 or 3,800 rpm and you can get into the upper 80's if you have the Hp at direct drive.

Take the reverse and put a reduction on there of 1.5:1 and you'll be hard pressed to hit 55 mph.

I've said it on here before, buy a 27 or 29 Fountain (or similar) single engine Bravo drive, get the Arenson-Bravo conversion kit and drop in a diesel. You want a great all around boat go with 1:1 gearing, no 2 speed and you'll hit the numbers you want, probably with under 400 hp.

You want to go fast get the drive up to go .85 or .78 overdrive and loose all your cruise speed but as Ricky Bobby said "go fast!"
