Default no title and no HIN..what to do

Looking at a possible project boat. 24 offshore type. Dont know any of the history. The "owner" never got the title from the guy he bought it from. The boat was last registered in 2000 and it looks like its been sitting outside uncovered ever since. It needs a full restoration. The transom has been messed with so no HIN is visable. If i can get it cheap enough I would like to pick it up and try to bring it back to life. I live in Massachusetts. Is there anyway I can get a title or register it if I cant contact the last real owner? It does have registration numbers on it still. Thanks for any info

what kind of hull is it?

My buddy had a 24 with no HIN or anything but it had never been rigged.

If you have the old registration numbers or if the boat was documented you may be able to figure it out. My boat I had some of the numbers but not all of them. I gave Formula the numbers that I had and through the process of elimination we were able to figure out almost all of them.

Cool

Have the local marina declare it as junk ! then they can sell it legally and then you can pick it up from them..... Marinas always have this problem with boats that are left at their marina yards for lack of storage payments or some other overdue bills , not sure how they due it , I know they do . Good luck with your project....... I will say one other thing ,most of the time these projects become garage potatoes or are so expensive that they will bleed you to death.... Think about this long and hard before you start.

I am going to look at it again this week, and bring a friend with me (hopefully and can talk some sense into me when he sees it) But if I am going to get it, I will get the reg #'s .
