VIDEO: Team AMSOIL #77 Super Cat rough water testing
 

Check out a video of the AMSOIL Skater Super Cat light testing last Thursday for the POPRA Lake Havasu Grand Prix. We were running off of Windsor Beach in high winds and it was about as rough as Havasu gets. Click through to youtube and watch in 720p or 1080p for the best viewing experience.

Do you hold back a bit when testing like that because of lack of heli support ??

Are you testing technique ? prop choice? new engine rebuild ?

Great video. Couple of questions.

Having never boated on Havasu, does it get swells or is it just a big lake chop? Second, what are the red lights on the dash?

I believe that are for when they hit the rev. limiters, at least that is what I have seen in other race boats......

Well we try not to crash whether there are heli's or not! But for testing when there arent full safety and medical present its in the back of our minds. We train to rescue ourselves either way, as thats the most effective policy for survival in an accident.

It was the first time out for the new season, so it was good to shake it down. We test at every race site no matter what to get the lay of the land and win the setup game.

Red lights are limiters/warning system.

Havasu gets lake wind chop no swells. Just tight chop 3 foot at most I would say. Not like powell or tahoe just not big enough. Where we were in the video is pretty much the most wide open area on the lake.

Just curious, did you do anything special with the mount for the cockpit camera?
Maybe it's just me, but the vibrations of the boat seemed more acute, and separated from the movement of the camera- as though the camera was dampened with a shock absorber. Nice.

What are the 2 lights (one between the tach and speedo on both sides) for?

Cockpit cam was a contour HD on a suction cup style swivel mount. Its not quite as solid as a double stick hard mount but it allows a greater range of angles from the point on mounting. I dont have a suitable hard mount to get a forward looking camera mounted on the firewall over our shoulders. Rear camera was a gopro HD on their "motorsports package" suction cup mount.

Awesome video that shows how rough it can be when you guys are pushing it. This has to wear you out physically and mentally when you are racing. Are you guys racing in Michigan City this year. Your dad got a taste of how nasty Lake Michigan can be last year. It sure was nice to have the racers come to Michigan City last year.

What are the two flaps that jump up and down around the 50 to 60 second mark towards the corner of the boat. Are they exhaust covers??.

They let excess air out of the engine compartment
