Why would someone build a boat with no transom?

hmm weird... and it only has a hundo on it!

maddad 04-17-2011 01:45 PM

It's a lot easier to set a trawl with multiple pots/traps single handed when they don't have to be balanced on a transom. It looks like a work boat.

Ya , I live in Key west and have seen boats like that.

Catastrophe 04-17-2011 01:52 PM

You think its a work boat or is it a tender for some whacko modern mega yacht ??

mainstreet 04-17-2011 01:59 PM

Van Dam in town built a boat like that a few years ago, a little larger boat. Very odd looking boat.

modern mega yacht tender... me thinks:drink:

Perlmudder 04-17-2011 02:10 PM

But on second look, who would build a tender for a yacht that only seats 2-3 people? more so who would build a work boat with nice wood flooring?

looks like a dive boat

Lots of sailboats do that. It is so that when water goes in it just runs strait out the back. Can suck on a trailing sea!

But a Farr 40 / Mumm 30 are purpose built race boats, so it makes sense having an open back when you are racing in big seas instead of scuppers. This boat seems like its just a weird deisgn haha

I think it is super sweet, great lines and I like the teak flooring. Classy!

I would have ran the cockpit sole out past the motor a ways.

Catastrophe 04-17-2011 05:24 PM

I would take all the decals off the engine cover and alter the shape in some way and paint it the color of the boat.

I had some boats planned for a fish farm where they had to work close and keep the prop out of harms way.

Anything Steve builds is nothing short of outstanding and amazing in terms of quality and the definition of perfect

Ironmanwb 04-17-2011 07:30 PM

Its easier to push dead hookers off the back.

live ones to . . . . sometimes they can be a handful . . . . :D

30ctsutphen 04-17-2011 08:21 PM

Why wouldnt you put a trap door on the back so in a following sea you don t get hammered but when takking water on from the front it can escape, I think Id make it out of Lexan or PETG or something cool too.
