420/465/500/525SC/500 Bulldog/600SC/800SC/900SC/1000SC

That's all I can think of & they were all black pre-1992/3 I think.

The HP465 was a bad-a$$ motor. It did have a very snotty cam, although it was not a roller-cammed motor it did have Crane Gold roller-rockers and 2.25/1.88 valves with a 800 Holley carb.
We had one in a 226ES Baja back in the day. Nice motor. Got lots of attention at the docks with the cam it had.

There was a 800EFI also that, along with the 1000SC was sold as a "race only engine". The 800EFI had a Hillborn style injection setup on it and Pontiac style heads (I think)

Merc went from black to blue in the early 90's on the Merc Racing stuff (HP & SC series). They are all built in FonduLac, WI.
All the same stuff in a black HP500 vs a blue HP500.

When did they come out with the 1000SC motor and when did they stop making it. Also what makes it a race motor what does it have.

Yep, you're right. I built two 32s with the 450s. Found the pictures in my pile. They ran as good as the 500s.

Sydwayz, the 420's and 440 Cyclone's were all black, 425's were rare, but I believe had some blue, 450's had blue valve covers, intake, power steering pump, alternator, pulleys (some blue some black), and carb (just like HP500). The 465 had blue valve covers, carb, black intake. Yes, the 465 was a awesome sounding motor. I remember in 1993 driving a new 22' Velocity with one, man what a rocket. The old school 575 was a pretty mean motor too with the solid lifters and Stellings. Ah the memories!!!!

is the NA575 the highest horsepower pump gas NA motor mercury had built? I know they build the supercat motors but they are pure race motors....

Yep. I remembered the prop hp of the 800sc, and got it into my head that there was a 700sc from merc. My bad. Sorry guys.

Yes, as posted earlier. A 540 cid. motor. When I get back from our vacation, I'll find the specs if you are interested.
