Single Step on Non-Step Trailer?
I've got to pull my 35' Fountain single step out of the water while we pull a drive apart. How long can the hull sit on a non-step trailer? Should we try to put boards under the boat to simulate a step?
The trailer that we had used before was sold. Didn't want to damage the hull. Thanks. |
I had paper work for mine that stated to simple put the correct depth boards under the rear. You want the boards to extend to the transom or past to prevent a hook in the hull. Some will say it won't hurt, but why take a chance of it being also jostled while towing. Wouldn't take long to carpet and temporary screw some filler "bunk steps" on the trailer.

just place a board on the bunk to support the step area....just did my lift bunks for my 353 ....1.5" steps ....if your step is 1.5" get a 2x with carpet and place a cpl of deck screws in it ...make it short of the distance from the transom to the step ....as stated the imortant part is to support the transom ...on the step end it can be 6-8" short .....m

if its for a short time you will be fine.
dont drive on or off to keep from wearing on the edges of the step |

Appreciate the replies. We'll just get a couple of boards to make sure that the step is in contact with the trailer the whole time. It's a few miles from the ramp to the shop, but don't want anything to happen.
