Props, is it better to increase or decrease pitch?

Say a 29P prop is ideal for your boat and it only comes in even pitches.

Is it better to get a 28P increased, or a 30P decreased? Or does it matter?

What about getting a 28 and having it labbed?

Dean Ferry 05-16-2011 12:42 PM

I've heard that's better to take a 30" and make it a 29" , can't remember who told me that.......

BURNSMAZZ 05-16-2011 12:49 PM

Larger and decrease

That might work with the 30P, Too many RPMs with a stock 28 and not enough with a stock 30.

Dave, call Brett at BBlades. I trust his advice.

That's my plan, just wanted to do a little homework before taking up his time. I'm considering a 5 blade Maximus. I might get lucky and be right on target out of the box with a 28P.

Yup, had a brain fart and went the wrong way. I meant take a 30 and lab that to get the additional RPM's.

Bblades has a prop test program, I think its 30 bucks to test a prop....
