Affordable boating?

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/business...,4201099.story

"Commercially, the Mark 5 engine could be used in power generators, automobiles, trucks and boats.

In August, Schoell's team will also attempt to set a new water speed record for steam-powered boats on a South Florida waterway."

I love the idea in a boat...could it run on salt and fresh water???? that would be awsome...just put out a pick -up tube and you would never need to stop for a fill up...no added wight for fuel cells.

jmeng 05-17-2011 06:42 AM

Hmm, for now I think I'd rather my 37 AT come with 525s :coolcowboy:

CigDaze 05-17-2011 06:53 AM

And let's not forget our very own "Brownie's" involvement in the company. It's a very cool idea with broad implications if produced en masse. I wish them success and the best of luck.

ActiveThunder 05-17-2011 07:03 AM

I'm sure he will chirp in.

Dean Ferry 05-17-2011 07:05 AM

Looks very cool, Good luck to all involved!

cool stuff, curious what the heat source is and its efficiency.

Flames in the bilge is no big deal when you remove the combustible gas. And, they don't exactly have to be "open."

mr3dman 05-17-2011 10:53 AM

I like the idea, Would be interesting to see what kind of btu's are needed to heat the water to do real work.

No, actually a brand new 22 AT Banshee with a little lighter lay-up.

BROWNIE 05-17-2011 01:39 PM

See our website at cyclonepower.com. Lotsa boat guys up here, Harry, Me, Mike (who has worked for Harry for 30 years), Nick Miller, Gerald from Hawk Engines, and more. This ain't a joke. It is the next big thing....

dkwestern 05-17-2011 02:46 PM

Do we even have to ask about the 37 sortcruiser in that pic, or are you going to start another thread??

so it recyles the water too?!?!? hp??? torque???

SS930 05-17-2011 03:07 PM

Interesting! Looking forward to future developments and updates.

Sonic30ss 05-17-2011 03:19 PM

A steam engine makes 100% available torque (whatever the number happens to be) @ 0 rpm...ever see a steam locomotive spin the drive wheels as soon as steam is applied to the cylinders?
In the video there was mention that the speedometer and tachometer would be the same instrument, sounds like it's the same deal with this engine- Cool stuff!

cosmic12 05-17-2011 09:18 PM

Looks a bit bigger than a 37 to me. But it sure is one of Harry's hulls.
