Yes thats a lot of N/A horspower for the GM8.1L -496 block but its not the limit. Raylar and some others have built a few very reliable 800HP Whipple equipped Merc 496's for some customers around the country and I sort of feel thats about the safe limit for this engine block because of the 5/8" thick top of block deck and the fact all the cylinder bores are surrounded by water and not joined like the 502 and aftermarket blocks.
We will very soon have the New Dart iron block 8.1L replacement in our shop and hopefully ready to build Mercr 496's up to 600 cubic inch with a very strong block and with our special CNC'd heads and new bigger intake manifold we know 750-800HP N/A on pump gas will be possible and with a big Whipple 5.0L supercharger I would think 1200-1300 HP is very doable. Obviously these engines will be bigger bucks because we have to upgrade the fuel systems, oil cooler systems, heat exchanger sizes and such. Power and speed cost money, How much do you Want? - How Much can you Pay For?
Lets hope an improving economy will let more buy bigger!

Best Regards,
Ray @ Raylar

Nice power numbers. Is there a specific reason to run them so rich in the midrange?

What specifically is in the Raylar kit? I have a Crockett 496 and its pushing 600HP Naturally Asperated on its own, not a huge delta there. What is the kit and the cost for the few extra ponies ?
