Default Power Steering Fluid

I noticed my power steering fluid is low on my boat. I have a 454 MPI. I don't remember what type of fluid it says on the top of the motor cover to use, so i was hoping somebody could help me out. Do I need to use the Mercury fluid that it tells or could I pick up something that may be a bit less expensive?

I have always used standard PS fluid from the auto parts store with no issues, it is a GM pump so normal PS fluid is fine. In a pinch you can also use ATF. But PS fluid seems to be better for the seals.

I called imco on this and they told me standard power steering fluid. I believe my manual says the use of 10/30 motor oil is fine.

10w30 can be used in tabs and trims, but I would avoid it in the PS.
