Default Cleveland APBA

A couple of us are planing to head up to Cleveland for the races this year. Does anyone have any info on where to stay or anything else that would be helpful. Have never been before and I am tired of checking the apba web site since they still do not have info posted. Thanks

Here is a list of downtown hotels that I made for last year's race. The numbers correspond to a map, which I'll attempt to attach. If it doesn't work, give me your email and I'll send it to you.

I've included the approx. walking distance. They are all very short drives, and downtown parking typically isn't too terrible, unless there is a Browns game again this year.

There are also some nice hotels in Independence (about a 15 minute drive from downtown) and near the airport (about a 20 minute drive)

If you use any of the information though, you have to cheer for the Cat Can Do team!

1. Holiday Inn Select City Centre Lakeshore
1111 Lakeside Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44114
phone: (216) 241-5100
rate: $129 per night (APBA rate in 2001)
-Very close to the Wet Pits; closest hotel to the water; best chance of being able to see the race course of all of the hotels, but might not be a great view
-Decent rooms, but not great

2. Hampton Inn
1460 East 9th Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44114
phone: (216) 241-6600
rate: $109 per night (APBA rate in 2001)
-About a 5-10 minute walk to the wet pits, about 15 minutes to the east bank of the Flats
-Very nice rooms, especially for the money
-No room service

3. Sheraton Cleveland City Centre
777 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44114
phone: (216) 771-7600
rate: $149 per night (APBA rate in 2001)
-About a 5-10 minute walk to the wet pits, about 10-15 minutes to the east bank of the Flats
-Not as nice as some of the others from what I’ve heard, seem over-priced

4. Radisson
651 Huron Road SE, Cleveland, Ohio 44115
phone: (216) 377-9000
rate: $109 per night (APBA rate in 2001)
-Further from the wet pits—probably about a 15-20 minute walk, about 15-20 minutes to the east bank of the Flats
-Not sure about the quality of rooms, looks decent from outside

5. Cleveland Marriott Downtown at Key Center
127 Public Square, Cleveland, Ohio
phone: (216) 696-9200
rate: about $200 per night
-Pretty centrally located—about a 10 minute walk to dry/wet pits and east bank of the Flats
-Expensive, but it's nice

6. Residence Inn by Marriott
527 Prospect, Cleveland, Ohio
phone: (216) 443-9043
rate: about $140-160 per night
-Further from the wet pits—probably about a 15-20 minute walk, about 15-20 minutes to the east bank of the Flats
-Not sure about the quality of rooms

7. Renaissance Cleveland Hotel by Marriott
24 Public Square, Cleveland, Ohio
phone: (216) 696-5600, 1-800-468-3571 (general reservations)
rate: about $140-160 per night
-Further from the wet pits—probably about a 15-20 minute walk, about 5-10 minutes from the east bank of the Flats
-Cool old building, haven’t been in the rooms before

8. Embassy Suites
1701 E. 12th, Cleveland, Ohio
phone: (216) 523-8000
rate: about $??? Per night
-Further from the wet pits—probably about a 15-20 minute walk, about 20 minutes to the east bank of the Flats
-Not sure about the quality of rooms, but good enough for ‘N Sync (if that means anything)

9. Holiday Inn Express
629 Euclid, Cleveland, Ohio
phone: (216) 875-5187
rate: about $110-190 per night
-About a 15 minute walk to the wet pits, about 15-20 minutes to the east bank of the Flats
-Not sure about the quality of rooms

10. Hyatt Regency Cleveland at the Arcade
420 Superior Ave E., Cleveland, Ohio
phone: (216) 575-1234, 1-800-233-1234 (general reservations)
rate: about $190-225 per night
-Just opened in 2001, really cool building—it’s a converted shopping arcade

11. Ritz-Carlton
1515 W. 3rd, Cleveland, Ohio
phone: (216) 623-1300, (800) 241-3333 (general reservations)

-The name says it all…..

12. Wyndham Cleveland Hotel at Playhouse (Theater District)
1260 Euclid, Cleveland, Ohio
phone: (216) 615-7500, (800) 996-3436 (general reservations)
rate: about $160-220 per night
-Looks nice, somewhat far for walking

Baja boat:
I stayed at the Hyatt [10 on the list], you can walk or short taxi ride to all the events. They have "Light Rail" service there so if you Fly you don't need a car. Great Time! Doug

Doug-

How are the rooms at the Hyatt? The building itself is very cool, but I haven't seen any of the rooms.

Gotta love the $1.50 RTA train ride from the airport to downtown. Could it be any easier? And you're right...there are always plenty of cabs around.

What about dock space at Marinas near the race sites? I prefer to sleep on board. Would like something nice with showers food etc. Any ideas?

Thanks

Default Cleveland Marinas

As Mark said Whisky Island Marina is nice with direct lake access.
Another one is Old River Yacht Club.( 216 281-7080)
Nice facility with a resturant and bar. Also a pool and nice restrooms.
There is a launch ramp at the EdgeWater Park exit off of route 2 on the west side of Cleveland. This is also how you would get to WIM & Old River by vehicle. You will have to take a vehicle or taxi to get to the flats from the marinas around Cleveland if you don't go by boat.
Edgewater Marina and Edgewater Yacht Club are also at the same exit as WIM and ORYC and by the launch ramp. I have never stayed at these two.

The only exception to this might be Commodores Club. This is where I rack store my boat. You can do the walk from here but if you look like your from out of town better drive.
They don't have slips at this facility. You can tie up to the wall but you have to deal with boat and barge traffic up and down the river. Aside from that, the owner Fred is a great guy and the staff is very helpfull.

My next choice for close proximity would be Channel Park Marina which is right next to Old River YC.

To the East of the mouth of the river but inside the break wall is E. 55th St. Municipal Marina. Again I have never stayed here but have gotten gas here and it seams like an ok basic Marina but is farther away from flats.

I'm going to post a link to some others in the area.

Have fun,
Cordell
