Outerlimits 28-footer to Begin Production in Late June

Looking forward to seeing this one, http://speedonthewater.com/new-boats...late-june.html.

Griff 05-26-2011 09:47 PM

Thats a lot of steps for a 28' r.

Wildman_grafix 05-26-2011 10:06 PM

Is the brussel counted in the 28' ?

DONZI 05-27-2011 05:32 AM

I'll have to keep an eye out on the Bay to take spy photo's of the proto- type.
Will they disguise it like the car guys ? L.O.L.

dykstra 05-27-2011 07:10 AM

That oughta be way cool!! Looking forward to pictures.

Big Time 05-27-2011 07:25 AM

I like the fact that they have a prototype they are running the chit out of, hopefully working out any of the kinks. I'd hate to be the first customer who is also the test dummy. :o

This is one that I am excited to see.

From the amount of time Mike Fiore says he running the 28, the pictures shouldn't be too hard to get.

GRH 05-27-2011 07:52 AM

They should sell a whole bunch of those.....

According to Mike Fiore, who I touched base with via text this morning, the 28 is 28 feet long without the bustle. (It's an option that was pictured in the rendering.) With the bustle, they're going to call it the 29.

Hope this clarifies.

damdonzi 05-27-2011 01:51 PM

Curious to see how the GTMM boat competes with this.

Additional point of clarification/correction: The boat measures 29 feet with the bustle, which will be standard (I misunderstood Mike Fiore) and not offered as an option.

"We've been calling it the 28, but it's really a 29 and that's what we'll end up calling it," said Fiore, who'd just returned from a test run in the prototyple when he called about an hour ago.

How fast is the boat? "With a 525EFI, we're expecting it to run in the mid-90s," said Fiore. "We're almost there."

Baja_man 05-27-2011 03:01 PM

Anyone want to guess what the cost will be on this well equiped? $130's?

No way it's under $190k. Prob retail at like $240k and get a bump down for actual purchase.

Should be sweet, but a touch expensive for a 28(9) footer.

A touch expensive is putting it lightly at those prices.

You can buy one of many manufacturers boats and be into the same speed bracket for much less... or spend the same and be well into triple digits.

OL40SVX 05-27-2011 04:27 PM

The boats price will be under 200K. Target range depending on options with a Mercury 525efi set-up will be around 165K.

O_SEA_D 05-27-2011 05:10 PM

Not sure if it's comparable but, the Hustler 29' Rockit with the 525 was $160k at the Miami show and they said it ran 85mph. I would think the OL is more $.

how many have they sold for that much $$$ ?

rexcramer1 05-27-2011 09:17 PM

Mid 90's with a 525EFI would be darn impressive if the boat has a full cabin

PokerRun388 05-27-2011 09:28 PM

Can't wait too see the OL 28... I'm sure it will looking amazing, like all the other OLs out there!

I agree.

Also, to the point about buying other builder's boats that are capable of the same top speed for a lot less, yes, you can. But be sure you're comparing apples to apples. For example, the 28 has an epoxy/composite lay-up as compared to a conventional lay-up. That's something to consider. I don't think I'm going out on limb here when I say that Outerlimits builds an awfully nice, albeit expensive, boat.

Not dogging any of the other builders that offer a model in the same size range for less, just saying that for the sake of price comparison you need to compare custom to custom and production to production. There's more to any boat than top speed.

patyacht 05-27-2011 11:08 PM

So help me out here, who makes a 28' V Bottom that goes mid 90's with single stock Merc 525?

WILDMAN 05-27-2011 11:31 PM

Looks like a 24 without the bustle. Why so much overhang?

patyacht 05-27-2011 11:33 PM

Word is overhang is only a foot. Sketch is misleading.

animalhouse 05-28-2011 01:32 AM

Watched the boat run Wednesday. Very impressive. The bustle isn't that big at all, the sketch makes it out to be bigger than actual. I have watched this grow from a pencil drawing, to a running prototype, and I am very excited about it. I can assure you that there isn't another boat in this price range that has had this mutch r&d pit into it.

The price point will be well under 200k, so fear not. It handled like a go cart, yet didn't wince when the weather kicked up.

Indy 05-28-2011 07:09 AM

Can't wait to see this beauty, I've been looking forward to seeing this come out for a while now.

Mastercraft240 05-28-2011 07:31 AM

Last I was at the factory the boat was running REAL good. I'd be confident to say no-ones ever seen anything like it. As per the question about tweeking. I know OL has been testing the bottom and props significantly, no test dummies there. Awesome design all around.

DoTheMath 05-28-2011 01:22 PM

Looking forward to seeing this completed for sure!

Raw material production costs these days have been skyrocketing, glass, resin, carbon, all tied to the petrol industry. Based on what I have been seeing over the last 6 months or so, "shopping" (new) custom (west coast) sport cats in the 26' - 29' range w/ a single 525, this is very competitive price-wise, and slightly better performance wise. Price-wise - in the same $160k - $180k range - the west coast boats measured a bit shorter (real boat), and performance wise, they were in the mid to high 80's with the same hp. In addition, this OL adds a number of enhanced construction techniques borrowed from their bigger boats that the rest don't. I think if this comes in as-suspected on both performance and price, (and no reason it shouldn't) OL will once again be filling a nice niche in the market for themselves. Kudos to them for continuing to think outside the box and deliver cutting edge products and customer service.

FWIW - to put it in a more familiar perspective, a production 292 Formula is going to run $200k (less any discount) with 2x 350 mags, that's a slight apples-n-oranges comparison but gives some perspective.

I see how you got your screen name now..... your math makes sense to me.

I believe they've stated the West Coast is a "target market" for them, and this boat sounds like it's perfect competition for the pod cats out there, but probably a lot easier to insure.

Jassman 05-29-2011 09:16 AM

Fred, has there been any mention if the boat can be fitted with a pair of small blocks. Thanks Jeff

stainless 05-29-2011 06:48 PM

I saw a prototype pic, the boat looks bad a$$!

The boat is being built to be a single. To re-work the grid for twins can be done but will cost a good penny.
