For those that are thrifty (cheap) like me, child size t-shirts make great fender covers. You can buy a 4 pack of Fruit of the Looms for $6. :drink:

what on your fender is causing scrathes. Never used a cover but always wondered what they were for. (other then being to cheap to buy new fenders if they get oil or grease on them).

I usually don't use covers either and never noticed any scratches.

The polyform is a softer rubbery type material,The others are alitter harder, now if you have gelcoat it really want matter:rolleyes:.But if ya got a custom paint job"clearcoated" it will scratch/Chafe it if there is motion/waves .

Also the the cheaper, west marine/taylormade type cloth covers are coarser.

Also you have to maintain all covers and fenders, like if against a pier if it gets wood/concrete in the cover, etc.

dried up salt water on both will scratch the paint also.

I HATE flat fenders.

I keep a couple on the boat for hanging over a piling on a fixed pier. Other than that there useless.

I learned that 100% cotton diapers will scratch a paint job,Never thought it ,but Meguiars and 3M products say that the short nap on that cloth will keep any containment on the top, that will scratch the paint/clear.A Tshirt has a shorter nap than a old fashion diapier.

both make a cloth that has a deeper nap, that if a partical gets in it it will absorb it and not scratch it supposedly.

3m microfiber detail/wax cloth

i think were overthinking this. As long as they protect the boat and dont look like something thats been pulled out of swamp, who cares. Just get the correct thickness, spending a ton of money on something special thats going to get smashed up and not be seen most of the time, it doesnt matter

I use the taylormade big B. 8"x20". Have 4. West marine has a sale on them right now
