Can someone help?

I am thinking about buying a 2001 27victory Advantage
496HO for $27,500. When we took it for a ride its got a hell of ratle when the exhaust is switched to the loud position, pulled the dipstick and the oil was black. The owner claims its minor and refuses to have it looked at . His words were "thats why your getting the boat for so cheap" and threw a fit.
$27,500 is alot of money for me.
Am I being overly concerned?

How did it sound when in quiet mode?

kilrbusa 06-06-2011 09:46 PM

usually mechanical engine faliures are more detectable when the exhuast is quiet.... but if a seller acts irrational then thats a sign of something hidden???

there should be plenty of boats for sale in that price range for you.

It could be the internal flappers in the exhaust tips, i had them in my corsa slant cut tips it sounds like a lot of banging going on but once you put it in silent choice it goes away.

There's alot of good boats out there. If he wants to be a dick find another!

bigblockmike 06-07-2011 02:40 PM

:bsflag: I'm just going to walk away from it. Too many headaches. I appreciate the feedback.

I bet it is just the internal exhaust flappers. Not a big deal its completely normal.

Spend a few hundred bucks on a survey.

I'll second the guy who said exhaust flapper (diverter). BUT a survey is always your best bet.
