ProCharger FYI on tight belts
Just a fyi, I bought a used 26' daytona with a low hour 540 procharged motor, Of course when i get her home, I did all the maintanance, new fluids belt etc. I could never get more than 5 LBS boost or more than 4800 rpm. 95 mph. Thought it had to big of prop. I had the belt on the blower as tight as any fan belt. I go and buy a new merc lab bravo 1 30p,"down from the BBlades 32" at the same time the procharger tech tells me to make my belt really tight. So I go testing to find now I can pull this 30p to 5600 rpm and bounce off the limiter. I put the 32 back on run to 5400 rpm at 8 lbs of boost, 112 mph. a $1100 lesson. Anybody looking for a new labbed 30p?:lolhit:

8 rib or 12 rib? I went thru this 8 years ago and then switched from 8 rib to 12 rib drive, IMHO the m-3 should NOT even be sold with 8 rib drive system as it has to be rubber band tight to slow the slipping down when running any upper pulley in the 4" or smaller range, Smitty

I am in a similar "boat"......I am really not sure how tight the belt should be? How do you measure how tight it is?
I have a M-1SC with the 8 rib running 5lbs and really not sure if I have the belt adjusted correctly, I am not throwing belts but not sure if I am getting top performance out of it...? |
