Default ANyway to use engine to heat water for my swim platform shower?

I'm thinking there has to be a way to use heat from the engine to warm the water for my fresh water shower.

I am a bit leary of tapping into the cooling system but one tought was to install a second small tube style oil cooler. Run cooling water through it and tap the fresh water shower into it where you would normally run oil.

Another less invasive idea was to wrap my exhaust with tubing, copper or high temp hose, and run the fresh water line through it. I have about 3 feet of exhaust hose between the riser and transome but I think it would look like crap.

Any ideas appreciated.

Most marine water heaters are set up to do exactly what you are talking about, in addition to running on shore power as well. The hookup is simple and safe. Check around for web sites - the company I am thinking of is called Seaward.

I have this setup on my 38 Formula with a well-insulated 6-gallon tank, and it gives me hot water the following morning!

If I'm not mistaken Overton's was selling that very system for ski boats so people could ski in the cooler months and warm up when done. Check that option out.

C-SPRAY is right - Just buy the 6 gallon water heater with the built in heat exchanger and pipe it to your engine. I took the little hose that comes off the top of the water pump and goes into the intake manifold off and put in two street ells and barbed fittings and ran each pipe to the proper connection on the water heater.
WORKS GREAT
