LOTO winner? Maybe, maybe not
I saw the thread about LOTO winning the Memorial day contest and wondering what the "verdict" was based on? First, let me say that I've been to LOTO and go to Havasu a lot. Both are great places to boat and I'd go back to LOTO, if I had a bigger boat (>22'!!) Each has distinct pluses and minuses.
With that being said, I called the Chamber of Commerce for both as well as some of the marinas, searched some newspapers on-line. Here's what I found; LOTO estimated "200,000 to 400,00 people in the area." "Havasu estimated greater than 250,000 people in the area, 50,000 people (visitors) in Havasu proper." Info from Chamber of Commerces. Missouri Water Patrol estimated 10,000 boats on the lake, 1100 at the Party Cove. Havasu Marina and Windsor Beach, estimated 800-1000 boats launched each day. No info on the other 6 or 7 launch ramps on the lake. Can't quantify the "party boats" in Havasu since they closed the main gathering spot on the holidays, the Sandbar. Still there was a lot of boats in the Channel, Copper Canyon and Steamboat. Take your pick for boating :D, a clear winner, I doubt it. Loved the green and the restaraunts of LOTO, hated the humidity and rain 3 out of 7 days. Havasu is hotter than hell, and except for the Topock Gorge, the scenery is somewhat bland, but the skys are typically always clear, along with the water! Craig |
What a great bunch of information, but the only really clear fact is you have way to much free time at work! I'll have to agree though, I'm sure it's hard to pick a clear cut winner. Although I would like to do a LOTO trip too sometime, it'd be nice to go to the lake on a big weekend and not have to worry about the LA gangbanger trash wandering through the channel. From the sound of things, EVERYBODY who took their boat out for Memorial Day weekend had fun (with the exception of a few tragedies nationwide) I know we did, even if it was just Lake Pleasant for a few hours, and that's what it's about. Now get back to work Mltdwn 12, the AC in my office just lagged, crank up that reactor it's getting warm in here!

Well you have to read the rule book that we made up. It has NOTHING TO DO with any statistics that are developed by the town. Not that Towns would lie about the numbers to help out with the tourist info. Plus there There were likely more boats in Party cove the ALL OF HAVASU!!!! :D :D Sorry but there IS NOT CONTEST WE KICKED HAVASU'S BUTT :p :p

Jon has spoken........so let it be........we shall all bow down to his words........and so be it. :D :D :D :D :D

WAITE A MIN DAMN IT I AM NOT FINISHED!!!!!!! Second if you stretch all the boats end to end at havasu you will maybe fill up the "cannal". Some of the boats at LOTO alone will fill up the Canal!!!! You guys have puddle boats for your puddle. LOTO had real boats you know like the 7 46+ high performance boats I counted. Lots and lots of Cigs, Manny Skaters, and a pontoon boat with a big block (not sure if it was the same one that ran the shootout last year that Waterfoul was telling me about) You got to understand THERE IS NOT COMMPETITION and I am from Boston so I could really care less   :p ;) :D :)

Jon,
I think you forgot to mention the "John" boat with the inboard V8 and jet drive. I think it's the one in the picture with Lane Frosty Balls on the bow. Now that's CLASS!!! Nope, just checked the pic, wasn't it. But I saw one, I know it. And I wasn't that drunk either. I think..... Buck #183 |
Buck183,
You were not seeing things. Yes there was an aluminum john boat with a small block/jet drive. I saw it up close because he backed into my boat and when he pulled away he sprayed us so I let him have it with the giant squirt gun!!!! |
K, I was pretty sure it wasn't the liquor.
You're not saying his was bigger then yours are you? :p Buck #183 |
Actually, there were two of them there (they were identical). I remember because the girls were working...um...for beads. :D

I wasn't at either lake this Memorial Day but I had my 22' "Puddle Boat" out on Lake Pleasant,( a mere thimbal of water by your grand standard) but I saw 3 38' performance boats there, (are Hustlers, Sonics, and Sunsations performance boats or just bigger puddle boats?) I know that on Sunday there was at least one 90 mph Daytona on Pleasant, and a 114mph 22' Sport Cat out there, ahh but I digress these are more puddle boats for our puddles in the desert. We do however have a few Skaters,Cigs, and the occasional Spectre that show at Havasu, but they're probably just lost and can't find the Pacific. Chuck |
Chill out, I don't think Jon meant anything bad at all. I failed to see anything rude about his post.

XTRM~
Yes, Jon meant nothing personal about his post. If you have been following along at all, the Havasu and LOTO people here at OSO have been exchanging this kind of harmless banter for the last several months. It's all in jest and meant to be fun. I can see where you might take it wrong if you weren't aware of that, so please don't think Jon was making any kind of attack. My husband and I made our first trip to Havasu this April and it is an awesome place. No doubt about that. The constant bickering back and forth between the two places helped make the winter and spring months pass by, and at times was an often needed break from some of the more serious posts on the board. Perhaps you can make a trip to loto someday. You'll love it! Peace, Amy |
Mltdwn,
I'm not sure where you got your info..............Missourri Water Patrol estimates in excess of 40,000 boats on the holiday weekends |
I know Jon didn't mean anything personal by his comments, and I have been enjoying the bickering back and forth to. "The Puddle Boats" comment did get under my skin. Although I'm sure you LOTO folks are right about the size of the lake, you probably never see those Amphibian cars cruising there like drive down the ramp at Havasu and proceed to drive through the channel. Big water needs big boats.

Hey Chuck thanks for calling me a "Dick". I would toss it right back at ya but that would make me no better then you. Get a clue is all I have to say. Look at my posts. I make just as much fun of the fact that my boat has not left the trailer in the last couple years as I do of anything else on this board. If you have been fallowing the post then you should know better and also know that we are all just having some fun with the whole LOTO vs. Havasu competition. This was not started by me I think it may have been Phantom that started it and we are all good friends and we are all just playing around. One of the lakes that I boat in is also very small, BIG DEAL. We all have fun on what ever body of water that we boat on that is all that matters isn't it?
To answer your questions I saw 6 skaters. A 24, a 28 with tripples, a 28 with twin's, a 32 and Lick this I think a 46 with twin monster motors spin out, and some others from a distance. Oh ya and thanks for making fun of my spelling. Something that ia have struggled with all my life. I have dyslexia and it has been something that has always tortured me. I have never judged you or called you a name so don't you start judging me. Thanks man you make me feel great. Now go back to lurking!!! Jon I guess I should go take my congratulatory post back from Cuda because he got a "small" boat:mad:   |

On any given day there will be 10 thousand yachts in the harbors in southern california probably that many moored in king harbor and marina del rey alone .Those are yachts in your photos right ! LOTO looks awsome would like to come back some time on a holiday weekend and see what its all about but for now i will have to be happy going to the puddle lol with my puddle jumper . Hey you may be right on the boat or yacht count but if you want to talk about the quality of the women well now we got something to talk about lol great topic!!! Mitch

God I love this country:) and the sport or recreation of boating.
Every region has it's own "hot spots" that people charish and flock too. Seems whenever any of our OSO brethren and or sisteren (is that a word) trek to other areas they are welcomed with open arms and treated like family. Boaters have got to be the greatest people on earth. Wouldn't it be awesome to hit all the "hot spots"? I guess when my Powerball ticket hit's that's what I'll do. Be safe. :) |
