I had a guy working for me that lied so much that i offered him $50 bucks to tell me the truth before i fired him.
It is terrible.
The guy i bought my boat from did not disclose alot of unseen issues.
He said the boat was like new and maintained it with an open checkbook.
All lies!!

I want to defend sellers as well, cause it goes both ways. This winter I sold my old 160 hr boat to a guy at a discounted price. When spring came I pulled the boat out of storage, prepped it for him, cleaned it top to bottom, machine glazed and waxed the boat, changed the drive oil and engine oil, put $50 in gas to get it going, replaced both batteries, launched the boat, showed him how to drive it, gave him the coast gaurd stuff, let him run on my regi for 1 month.

He used to call me 7 times a day everytime he used the boat to ask a million questions. Then he found the microwave didn't work and wanted me to replace it on my dime, I declined. Then he called to say the outlets don't work in the boat out on the lake (it needs to be hooked to shorepower). Lastly he said the boat has a little water in the bilge after sitting for a week and someone told him it needs new bellows (new last year) and the canvas has a rip and he wanted me to buy a new one for him. We don't talk now and he tells every one he got screwed. He has put 48 hrs on the boat so far this year last I knew, and is out every day! Boat is a 1997 Crownline cruiser with an all aluminum 2009 rocket trailer, trailer and boat still look new. $16 grand I sold it for, what gives?

There seems to be two things in life that are really hard to do:
1. Be Honest
2. Be Humble

I make a concious effort everyday to do both as much as needed.

Wish more performance boat and parts sellers would try to practice more.

I get sick of people buying used stuff and then complaining that it was not what they were told, we are all adults here, boats always need something,

Either buy new stuff or do your homework (ie: surveys,) or just suck it up and move on!

The boat I sold when I bought this one was immaculate. The gentleman the bought it called me two days after the sale and told me his local marina found a drive gear with a broken tooth and a bad bearing in the seawater pump. I asked for copies of the receipts and promptly reimbursed him the full amount for the repairs.

Sounds like fun all around. I grabbed a baja for a discount price that "just needs a buffing and fuel" a couple grand later I'm still chasing gremlins :angry-smiley-038: B.O.A.T. haha

It goes both ways for sure. I sold my '77 Formula F-18 to my neighbor in Ft. Lauderdale. I sold it as is and warned him that even though it was a turn key boat...that he should change the exhaust manifolds and risers very soon. I even recommended a couple of shops to do the work. After about 6 months and about 10~12 trips out suddenly he wouldn't speak to me. Turns out he hydro locked the engine and bent a rod. He told everyone in town what a sorry sack of $hit I was for selling him a boat that had a bad engine!!!

Turns out he bought a used Formula F3 from a dealer who tried to warn this guy about maintenance. He never flushed the boat after use (salt water in the tropics...hello!!!) and hydro locked another engine due to water intrusion from rotten risers. The new story he told was that Formula boats are $hit because the engines don't hold up!!!

Some people are beyond stupid.

i can relate to all of em since i have been on both sides of the equation several times over the years.

"used" means just that: used. no warranty. buyer beware. there are tons of deals that go down every day that go just as planned...it seems you only hear about the Sh!tty ones.

my checkmate that i just bought two weeks ago already has a lower unit that needs work....the actuators for the trim indicators were missing and one of the tab indicators didnt work. the stereo was inoperable. one of the oil pump regulators was hooked up wrong, and 4 of the 8 lower motor mount cover bolts were broken off. no big deal. its the difference in a 10k dollar boat and 100k dollar boat.

but i got a deal and im a realist. if your buying something used your gambling. plain and simple.

and anyone that gets into boating thinking that its a "buy a boat - hit the water - forget about it" type of hobby is out of their rabid a$$ mind.
