thats only about 35 hours a season,,,,low hour boat if you ask me..

I say 50-55k

THE 288 KID 06-16-2011 09:35 AM

I wouldn't say those hours are high at all...

3 things I don't like about that boat tho, its purple, its an open bow, and it doesn't have the H.O.

But it sounds like its what Ur looking for purpose wise and id highly recommend a Sunsation.

If u have any questions feel free to pm me perhaps I can answer them

I just pulled the file on this boat and it has a clean bill of health, (ie no warranty claims or red flags on our end)

If you have any other questions give me a call at the factory

I looked at them before buying my Donzi 28 ZXO. I think Sunsation actually has a better thought out design than Donzi. The Micro, sink, fridge, porta potty gets you a tax write off I think. The cabin is bigger and the bow area is pushed all the way forward where Donzi maintains the anchor locker and it eats up some space. I think the Donzi looks a little sexier because it doesn't have the flat area in front of the windshield. In the end most of the checkmarks went to Sunsation... and I'm a huge Donzi fan so that's saying a lot.

Now all that said, I didn't go sunsation because of the single engine. It's a lot of boat for a single 496, especially when you have a party on board. It seems that this style boat attracts friends like flies and when you have 10 people on board it would be nice to get on plane on the way to the sand bar.

For the Donzi ZXO the single 496HO runs about 10 MPH slower than the twin 6.2's and I couldn't imagine having less power than I do now so I don't think I would enjoy the boat nearly as much. My guess is the Sunsation with the 496 will run about 60 in good conditions. My fast cruise with cruising props is 55.

To me, all of the PITA features of having a sterndrive boat (beaching, draft, etc) are more than made up for with speed and / performance in general. But with the Sunsation you get a pretty fast bow rider Vs. a Performance boat that happens to have an open bow. I still couldn't see skiing behind it (too big) and couldn't see distance cruising with it (one engine) and it's not really a top end machine so where does it fit in?

That sunsation 32 MCOB though... that's a beast with a couple of Big Blocks. possibly our next boat

I agree with VetteLt193, spent a month of my time tracking down a Sunsation, even making a 800 mile round trip to veiw one. I could not pull the trigger. I did buy a Donzi ZXO, and spent another 10K, but to this day I still think the Sunsation has a much better mid- cabin. I wanted a go fast boat and the wife demanded an open bow. The twin 350 mags are lot of fun in my Donzi, I look forward to finding the right Sunsation 32 MCOB with ho"s.

Don't bid until the last few seconds, if you really want it. Sniping is usually the best way to win an item..... Wait till about 20 seconds to go and place the max you want to spend.

I have never seen another brand where the corporate group does an unsolicited check for free on a used boat. Nicely done.

This is one reason Sunsation is on my sort list of manufacturers for my next boat!

As for the 288 MCOB, I've driven one with a HP500 and it ran an easy GPS 75mph with 5 of us on board. I was very, very impressed with the boat.

great info ,hoping to put the Raylar kit on her if things go well on the Auction ..

ZP'd 06-17-2011 08:14 AM

265 hours is low hours on that boat. If it's stock with NO mods at all (aftermarket headers etc) and hasn't been beat to death and it's been properly taken care of it's just getting well broke in.

Been on one with the non HO 2004 model and it was a 62-63MPH boat GPS

Dave M 06-17-2011 08:15 AM

Nice, but underpowered.

JKetels 06-17-2011 08:17 AM

I may be your bidding competition! It seems like a very nice boat and I would really like to own it as well. What does everyone think about the ride in rough water for the ZXO donzi and the sunsation 288 MCOB?

ZP'd 06-17-2011 08:19 AM

The two things that hurt it are the non HO 496 and it does not have the Mcleod interior. 45-50K would be a decent price seeing the condition and how it appears to have been well cared for.

sunsation96 06-17-2011 08:24 AM

I own a 32' MCOB W/ small 6.2's the boat rides great and is great on fuel for a boat. We really have not used the MCOB but we just had our first child two weeks ago and I see it being used someday in the future.

THE 288 KID 06-17-2011 09:50 AM

If 288 values are as high as u guys are saying, consider my boat officially on the market! LOL

Every preowned Sunsation I saw was priced nice and beefy. I can't speak for the whole brand on value but the MCOB's hold their value very well.

As for ride I doubt either the Donzi or Sunsation will ride much different. The big thing Sunsation has going for it is a full extra foot.

im far from an expert but from what ive seen the actual running surface is pry about the same. i believe a sunny has a notched transom and the pad may be a bit wider. both are very nice boats though

fireguy 06-17-2011 03:48 PM

One of my closest friends has a '05 288 closed bow. It has a 496 mag HO w tube headers and it runs 72 on GPS with 4 people 3/4 tank of fuel and 2 coolers. It is a great boat with a great ride. I would love to have one.

I now own a ZXO. It was not my first choice, but I could not strike a deal on a 288 MCOB. In my own opinion, I feel the donzi may have the edge in rough water. I think a 288 is about 4500 lbs dry, and the zxo with twin 350 mags is 6500 dry. I dont know about hull design, but I would think 2000 lbs would help it run better in the chop.

You would be surprised at how well the singe engine 288 runs and gets on plane fully loaded. In fact I know several poeple who prefer the single to the twin small blocks because the weight savings, center gravity being dead center makes the boat fly extremely straight, cheaper maintenance etc etc.

I had the cabin in my 288 so full with camping gear last year you could not get in the cabin. We also had stuff on the floor of the seating area + 4 people. We were at Lake Powell which is higher in elevation and the boat came up on plane easily and ran fine for 40 miles uplake. I have a single 502 EFI.

Donzi Dude 06-17-2011 08:31 PM

I think it is a great looking boat, that black motor is probly good for 1000 hrs, it is what it is, not trying to be the fastest but good looking boat. I like the idea of a good size single motor sporty boat with an open bow.
I would love to have it on my dock right next to my Donzi ZR

THE 288 KID 06-17-2011 09:45 PM

These are probably one of the best all around boats in my bias opinion LOL

dagah2x 06-18-2011 06:06 AM

quick story, I had a 2002 288 for 1 year, absolutely loved it, gets on plane easy and you honestly never need the trim tabs nd overall rides great. Sold it for other reasons having nothing to do with the boat. But the story goes like this, I called someone, not sure who at the factory when I was looking to see if they knew of any dealers with a 288 for sale, he gave me 2 names, niether one had something I was really interested in so I moved on and bought one private sale. 2 weeks later I get a phone call on my cell phone from Joe at the factory on his way home from work congratulating me on my purchase and wondering if I had any questions. Not sure how he even knew I bought it but thats customer service! How often do you buy a used vehicle and the owner of the company calls you just to say HI???

tim brown 06-18-2011 12:18 PM

that sounds like real customer service . I cain't understand why Reggie didn't call me , I have bought 2 fountains in the last 4 years . I guess I bought the wrong brand , but then I did get 2 big blue motors . just kidding . very nice boat and customer service .

bert4332 06-18-2011 03:18 PM

Saw the bid ended early, did you buy it direct?

JKetels 06-19-2011 10:59 PM

I was going to do some bidding late, but it ended early, I wonder what this boat went for cause its exactly what I am looking for.

Beboatn 06-20-2011 06:04 PM

got for what his reserve was. I was talking to him from the begining of the auction and made him the offer and he took it.

boatnt 06-21-2011 09:25 AM

never really understood why some people post links of boats they are intrested in....if its a good deal now everyone will know about it.....
kind of like your advertising for the seller..
