Default Why isn't there any off shore boating in the mediterranian?

I spend quite alot of the summer in Europe and one thing I cant get my head around is why the powerboating/off shore culture hasn't reached the medeterranian?

In Scandinavia and primarilly Sweden there is a ton of powerboating, poker runs, off shore clubs and so forth.

But I cant remember ever seeing a off shore boat in the med.

Why is that?

If they can afford 100-200 feet yachts, I think they can manage a power boat.

And, not that many floating camels in Monaco...

I don't know the answer to the question but it's on my bucket list. I'm sure there are plenty of safe waters to travel in and great ports to visit but may be getting fewer.

Haha, what are you on about?

We're talking about France and Italy, not the third world...

There are plenty of offshore boats in the Med. Cigarettes, Magnums, Formulas, Donzis, 2 Apaches that I know of. Many Panteras in Italy. Look at the Barcelona Yacht Club... There's even a Fountain by the old "Dive" restaurant location.

The Med is a huge offshore market... and its starting to spill over to the north towards the Black Sea... they are also in love with offshore. Varna, Bulgaria has an active Cigarette Dealer who also handles Formula.

Guess you weren't looking in the right spots.
