Security System/Theft Deterent?
I've never had any problems regarding theft all of these years, but with hard times comes crime. Our community dock as been targeted this year and I want to do something before I just start replacing equipment. So far, the thefts are stereo related. They crawled in under the 2 covers and unscrewed several subwoofers in my boat. Others have lost amps, tvs, etc.
Is there some type of motion detector set up in the cockpit? Are security cameras the best way to go? Like I said this in a condo complex and only has security on the weekends. Not a lot of full time residents. I don't want to spend a lot of money because the stolen items so far haven't cost that much. I won't replace them to have them stolen again. What have others done? Thanks. |
I cannot remember what the product is called, but there was someone who invented an alarm that went off when a certain snap on the boat cover was opened. This was a while ago, but search for boat alarms, or something similar on here. We had our stereo stolen last year, unfortunately, for the price of the head unit, it is not even worth filing a claim. The night we got taken, they hit about 6 boats all moored out within a couple hundred feet of each other. I wish I would have been down there with a bat to see them jump on my boat.

I use a driveway alarm. I put the infrared sensor inside the cockpit and any movement sets off the alarm I keep in my bedroom. Thieves wont know they set it off until they are looking down the barrel of a 12 gauge.

Appreciate the replies. I'll continue to do a little research. Much like everyone else, would like to catch someone in the act.
