High performance boating

High performance boating is like dating a really really hot chick, who is crazy! It's a lot of fun, you spend too much money, your up all night ending up sweaty & greasy from it, your friends are jealous, you get admission into some weird club.. But it gets mad at you for no reason, throws fits seemingly randomly, has unexplained issues which somehow solve themselves only after you try a bunch of different parts and spend a bunch of money to solve it...and yet you can't resist getting in it every chance you can.

Lets talk about trust. They say there going to change and they act really nice for a while so you plan a trip with them and all your friends. You get your hopes up and spend a lot more money and go out of town with them. She then throws a fit as soon as you get there ruining everyones weekend!

So true, And trying to do both at the same time is killing me...

kreed 06-20-2011 11:46 AM

My friends and I discuss this from time to time.... It really is the worst sport I could have gotten into. That is, financially, physically and mentally! Its all bad. Its 250.00 a day in fuel to run the boat. Thats running the boat for about 2.5 hrs. Then you have food and drinks...could be 100 to 200 bucks right there. So it potentially a 4 to 5 hundred dollar a day hobby. Not to mention, the beating you body takes working/getting the boat ready, hitting waves, and dehydration the next day! Then, if something is wrong with the boat, it becomes my FIRST priority in life! Its all I think about until its solved/fixed. I would say, Im obsessed, and it takes ALOT out of me....but I cant stop!!!!

You forgot all the makeup and massaging, weekly oiling and rub downs and if your LUCKY she'll let you ride her once a week! :hitit::evilb:

My wife actually likes this hobby because she knows as long as the boat is around there is absolutely no way i would have time for or the money to possibly get into any more trouble.

caseyh 06-20-2011 12:55 PM

powerboats are like drug addictions! were is the weekly meeting for overcoming the addiction at?

Every once in a while though, they through you a curveball and do everything that you hoped for and you are just ecstatic. Then you get urges that something bigger may be in the works and get nervous......... :lolhit:

Saw that on jeepforum some time ago, I think it works better with boats though:drink:

This is why a man should have 2, not 1. One to play nice and be sweet to family, friends and of course yourself. That one will take care of all your basic needs. The other is wide open fun and if it throws a fit, but it's ass on the truck in the parking lot and forget about it while it blows off steam and cools down. The only trick is getting them both to the lake at the same time.

***the above applies to both boats and women!

Luckily I'm FLUENT in Crazy.

On BOTH counts.

I also speak drunkinese. Helps to soothe the crazy ones.

Cash Bar 06-20-2011 06:05 PM

I collected Harleys, custom and Factory, for years before boats.

I now tell people I gave up a hobby that made me think in hundreds AND thousands of dollars on a daily basis.

Now I have a hobby that makes me think in hundreds OF thousands of dollars on a daily basis.

It is like having a wife who is a bi-polar, psychotic, nymphomaniac Victoria Secret lingerie model, in a drug rehab program, with multiple personalities, that you happen to fall in love with.

I will say that this hobby definitely changes your perspective on money. Now everything that I pay for in other aspects of my life seems like a freaking DEAL. I've been messing around with cars my whole life and I used to think that $5k for the service on a Ferrari was a rip-off. $1,100 fuel fill-ups will change your state of mind.

Also, I used to think it was a pain in the ass to detail a car. After obsessively detailing my boat for a few years I can detail a car in my sleep!

ctconsulting 06-21-2011 09:40 PM

Yes it's easy to start talking about these "toys" in hundred thousand dollar increments.

But always remember....crazy girls fu$k the best!!!!

Sorry about the momentary lapse of reason thinking about expenses and boats. Silly me. You just snapped me out of it CT. :coolcowboy:
