Default close call boat flip

Sunday was an entirely different experience. We went to the Glenn over in Lake George and on the way back flipped the boat and all 3 of us were ejected. Trying to beat the storm back to the ramp we were passing one boat at a time in an effort to get out of the washing machine effect of all the wakes coming together from the boats ahead of us. In the curve just north of South Moon fish camp we were running in what looked like clean water inside the wake of a boat. As we were sliding around the curve the boat got on top of one of the lead boats waves. Our boat got airborne and turned sideways then hit the water on the port side of the boat ejecting all of us. The people behind us said the boat did a complete flip over us before landing up right. We were very lucky to only get some cuts and beat up. I have had this boat for 20 years so this was not a green horn slip-up. The combination of rain drops on my glasses and dark over cast conditions factored in but ultimately it was me pushing to get back to the ramp that resulted in the wipeout. Thank goodness no one killed or seriously injured. Not one of us was wearing a PFD. Thankfully I had not drank one drop of beer or the FWC would have arrested me on the spot.
Lessons learned
My boat needs a dead man style kill switch. Fortunately the MSD box getting submerged is what killed the motor.
I need some Mustang style PFD’s for myself and passenger and only have one passenger.

very very lucky guy along with his passengers!!!! I have gotten myself into the habit of putting on my kill lanyard. I do take it off when we enter long idle zones sometimes..it gets hot around my wrist i do wish I had a kill on the port side as well just incase one of us were to get ejected. PFD's i have to admit to not wearing one very often though

That kill switch isn't going to do much good if its on only one side of a twin engine boat. If the port keeps running it will run the death circle and defeat 1/2 the purpose of the kill switch.

Glad to hear you and your passenger are relatively ok. I've seen time and time again, when people leave Silver Glen Springs because of a storm, it's mayhem in the SJR! BTW pretty boat, at least it was

Take care, and definitely get that Kill switch installed.

Got the Velocity last October. Do think i recall the Stream, i had two back in the day and just love the ride when they are on the pad.

It was a mess in the SJR two or three 40 MPH tubs side by side just making it hell on my small rig.

We are doing a Poker run over in lake Butler this weekend, need to check and see what day but thinking its monday.

And there is the offshore races in Sarasota this weekend too! I think we will be staying in Brevard this weekend, taking out the new boat for the 1st time, I want to be in familiar waters!
We will have to get together and do some boating, either in BIG boats or little boats!

he may be talking about my 32, and it does kill both engines it has two kill switches hooked to one lanyard

I have a small caribiner on the end of my kill switch. I clip it to the bottom of my shorts around the seam of the leg openning. It works great and it keeps it completely out of your way. If I leave the helm when idling, or once stopped I get to walk clean across the boat; and it gives me a little tug when I get too far away.
