Jay,
Lots of good advice here. Take a day or two away from the boat. It sounds like you need to take your wife out for a nice dinner. It's great when they support your hobbies. When you and her hit the water with those new motors purring it will make all the hard work worth while. Good luck, Dan |
Way to go MArk and Ike ! Help the guy out ! Hang in there ! it will work out and be worth it ! TAke your time and do it right don't be in a big hurry like I used to be . It goes easier ,faster and cheaper if you take your time !
I"m buisy this week but if you guys need another hand let me know and I'll do what ever I can ! " Have torch ,will travel "! :D LAter ,JOE [email protected] |
Some thoughts.........
Your new wife is going to take out a loan to help you out with the engines??!! WHAT A SWEETHEART!!! Id say marry her but you already did, Now go bang her livin' brains out then come back and work on the boat....... Releasall workks very well, thats all they use at the gas company when they are changing gas meters that have been sitting ouside for 15 yrs. Call around to some machine shops, some of them have guys that their full time job is nothing but fastener removal, I met a guy one time, that was his business, goes to factorys, printing presses etc Go bang your wifes brains out......have a cigarette......go back at it..........Doug |
Hi I'm Brendan P and I'm addicted to boats......
Gotta love the OSO "trailer queen support group" aspect of the site :D |
Okay
Last night I looked like a monkey ****ing a foot ball trying to work those bolts again to no luck Me and 2 of my friends thought about it and decided to take a few steps back and have some beers After they left, I thought about it and thought about it This thing IS NOT GOING TO BEAT ME I have pulled **** out of thin air before and Ill do it again Ike, Im calling you today so be prepared I have figured out now what to do I have a wizzer wheel, Im going to take the protective shield off, lay down and wizz the tops of the bolts off Going to then fork lift this engine out of there (first one is already out) Then im going to torch the ***** and split the nut with an air chizel and get that off of there and then punch the bolt (or what is left of it) down after I remove the asswipe wishbone silent choice pipe (which by the way is for sale CHEAP) I just cant believe that little nut (aluminum and as light as a paper clip) is holding on so tight I have one bolt that does move about 1/8 th of an inch back and forth so I know that one is not seized in the bell housing spot If that other bolt is not turning at all, Ill torch her little ass and pry up the back of the engine or something (use the fork lift luke!) Ill get this whore out of there Ike, what time you able to talk? Jason |
Guys, thanks for the help, support and kind words (except you Dil! LOL)
I WILL get this out, rebuilt, dumped back in and the harder I work at this, the sooner Ill FINALLY get out on the water Thanks to all again Ill keep you posted on what happens Jason |
Jason i'll here now until at least 6:00 pm.
|
Good luck Jay. I have yet to pull my motors but I can only imagine I'll have the same sort of **** to deal with. Keep us posted on your progress. By the way, if rust is holding bolts in, I'm a big fan of Coke. Pour a can of coke on them if the coke will sit around them and get down in the threads you are styling. I used to use it all the time to get rusted cap screws out of a mold or die.

Trust me,,, I feel for yah,,,
I have been follwing this saga since its inception,,, Nobody wants to see that FOCKER cruising down the river more than me.. I guess it came out wrong.. But JAY-SON knows its all in jest..

exhaust bolts:
I don't know if you can do this, but on severely mauled exhaust bolt heads I've hammered then welded a grade 8 nut onto the bolt head. This gets the bolt good and hot, too. I have also welded cheapo box end wrenches onto bolt heads. Once it breaks loose, use the cutoff disc or Mr. sawzall to remove the remains of the wrench. Motor mounts: If you can get the dremel to one side of the nut you could also grind through to the bolt. Good luck, you will prevail. I think the hardware now knows the Apache tribe is ready to kick ass. Bulldog aka Ronnie |
Yeah have the boat with me today and towing it at lunch time to Ike's shop in Paoli (about 20-30 min from here)
See what Ike can do , too bad his Apache is not there for me to drool all over But he did say he has a mound of pics I can look through though. Hopefully this will come out no problems, yank the second engine, drop it off at the machine shop, and then it is cleaning time Going to clean out the bilge big time more sludge in there than a auto junk yards oil disposal conatiner. Then get paint for the bilge, paint it all up, accent paint all the accessories, rerig all the wiring and sleeve it, Boom done (yeah right!) Ike, see ya soon Jason |
just think when you're done you'll have a brand new boat:D
Russ |
Hummmmm. Heat up the bolts with a torch... opps Did I accidentally drop the torch in that oily bilge.... poof. Problem solved. :D
|
That's the spirit Jay! Get mean with it. My dad, who taught diesel mechanics in the Navy, always told me I just gotta be tougher than the damn bolt is!:D
|
Well now it is all up to Ike to yank that beast out of there
Dropped the boat off at lunchtime today First of all Ike, your family is cool as hell Second, your guys working for you, are cool as hell too. Ike, I owe you big time for this You name it you got it! See this is why boat guys are cooler than car guys no question! Ike, Good luck man, I had none getting that thing out of there so go for it (watch it will be like when you cant open a jar of pickles and you hand it to a friend and they are like SNAP and look at you like your a complete utter moron!) Thank god for OSO Jason |
Status report on the baja, engine is out and manifold is off. I have done alot of boat engines and have never had the rear mounts that tight . First we tried a mac 1/2" impact gun and did'nt move, then we got out the big dog IR 3/4" impact gun and the first bolt came out but the other did not even move a hair so then we got a 3/4" breaker bar with my floor jack handle and me and eric both had to work it back and forth until we could use the 3/4" gun again. Jason thanks for the kind words and she is ready to go.:)
ps. That is going to be a nice boat when you get it done. |

|
Way to go IKE!!!! Thank has to put a smile on your face Jay :D:D:D
|
Yeah Im totally pumped to go get her today and bring her home, then drop off the #2 engine that Ike pulled for me and get that over to the engine shop tomorrow.
Yeah Haulin, you want to come over and help me wash out the bilge with Simple Green your more than welcome (my saturday morning agenda) I dont know you so Im not going to call you a dumb ass like Mark did but I appreciate the offer none the less. Too old, your right, If it was not for members that can step up to the plate and offer some help this board would more or less be useless to alot of us. This is totally a labor of love but what do you do when you run into a big snag like this? CALL IKE!!!!!! (at least for me anyway) No that is why im proud to be a member here and happy to lend a hand, advice or a wrench anytime I can for anyone like Ike did for me. again, thanks all with the help on my project and now I can move forward even more now with the rebuilds, customizing and tweaking and the addition of MORE POWER RRRRRRRRRRRRRRR Jason |
Jason, I'm glad to see it has worked out for you. You may have more obsticles to overcome yet, but it sounds like you have plenty of willing hands of fellow boaters to help you out too.
Ike, that was a cool thing that you did for Jason. Jason, are the pits in the ports of the heads so severe that you still have to replace them---did Ike see them? |
Hey,,, they pink engines will match the pink stripe going down the side..
;) ;) :p :p :D :D
|
Ike, that certainly was great thing you did for Jayson...way to step up!
|
You are one lucky man. if I had this Board when I was going thru Hell with my Donzi I would have never bought it and would have a nice Cig, OL, AT, or Formula. That would not be broken and basically a very expensive trailer anchor. This Board is like no other and we love to help others. Good luck and use the Force Luke.:D The OSO Force:D
|
well today I went back to Ikes' shop and picked up my project boat.
He got the engine out of there super fast, and really things this boat will be awesome when I finally finish it. He showed me pics of his new and old Apache, MAN all I can say is I stood there with this pack of pics in my hand in awe. This 41 apache has to be the most beautifully airbrushed boat I have ever seen, More than the Outerlimits I have seen. More attention to detail on this ride than I have ever seen!!!!! NO ONE builds them like this NO ONE Ike my friend, you are going to have the time of your life on that thing, NEVER sell it, there is NO NEED to ever get another boat cause none will ever compare.!!! (if you do what to sell it I know someone that will trade you for a 1990 baja 280 es with pink engines!!! HEHEHEHE) If it was not for Ike, I would still be trying to get these bolts out and going stir crazy in my driveway This is my formal THANKS to Ike for stepping up and helping a OSO brother out and Ike, Id be proud to meet up with you this summer and hang in MD You let me know and im there Forever indebted to you Jason |
That what i like to see people helping other people out.
|
thanks everybody. i've been helping Jay with this project since
day one. It's good to see the dude happy again. I'm a little sad myself though. Who's going to pay for gas on my boat now? |
Gas will be cheap compared to Our Bar tab that we will make Jay pay for :D :D
|
Nice job Ike! Always good to read this kind of stuff!:D
