yellow bottom.
i have never had a problem with my bottom turning yellow, but i recently moved to a canal and it turns really yellow in one night.
i like to keep it at my house on the weekends. i dry store the boat. i guess my question is. what can i do to prevent it over night? shpuld i wax it more often... what wax it gets exhausting having to on off it every weekend. does anyone else have this problem? is it the canal? I was talking to my father and he said it because the canal is very tidal and the water is so warm. It makes it look like i dont care for my boat. Thanks for any help boys |
If you put wax on, and don't buff it off, it will slow the stain. On Off is pretty harsh just to clean that. FSR is mild and works very well. Power 1 is a little harsher, but works very well. The only way to prevent it would be a lift or one of those pool style setups that let you chlorinate the water around the boat.

i was gonna try a good coat of wax. i guess if it doesnt help i will just bring it back to the marina every night. i appreciate the input.

You want to pick up some Slimy Grimy.
http://www.slimygrimy.com/ I've been using the granules in a garden sprayer for years, and it works great. |
Cheap toilet bowl cleaner in a garden sprayer works well for cleaning and won't break the bank

Nothing you can do to prevent the staining. Lots of products are easier to use than On/Off. Use some Works or Sno Bowl toilet cleaner in Pump garden sprayer. You can use muratic acid also. I can do the bottom of my boat in 20-30mins easily. Just make sure to rinse it off very well.

on off is VERY harsh. The more you use it, the easier the gel stains.
Look / Search for a pool product called Ringo. It's a red gel that won't harm gel or you, no fumes, can be applied with bare skin. as far as keeping the stain off, try using Future floor wax on the hull. Some have reported 100% success with it. Most importantly - stop using on/off! |
I cut some Works 50/50 with water.

our lake and river here always leaves a stain when i put the boat in even for just a day. I use to use Sno Bowl and all the other harsh stuff but found PowerOne last summer. It use to be a huge chore keeping the boat bright white and now when i pull the boat on sunday i just leave it dry till the next day and walk around with a squirt bottle and thats it then i just hose it off. I went from a few hour chore to just a few minutes. (works best on a dry surface)

i appreciate all the input.. i will try them all.
when i use on off i dilute it with water. i have maybe used it three times total. i have never seen yellow show up so fast. i guess it will have to be part of the regular maintenance... like flushing it. |
I use on/ off , it's pretty easy to use, but you must keep your trailer wet (it will eat in to some trailer parts. I have never heard of the stain coming back "sooner" if you use it? After all it's made for bottom cleaning, it' strong, but lots of people use it often.
I have seen waxed areas not stain "as bad" - I know because sometimes I can see where I stopped waxing the bow area water line. |

We used to do it with a garden sprayer, now I dump it in a bucket and apply it with a soft bristle brush, its faster and uses less product.

I have also cut On/Off with water and used it occasionally. I found waxing the entire bottom meant I could go for 5-6 weekends without the bottom turning color. If I dunk the boat in the water after On/Off before waxing it would stain up that very day.....Guess that stuff cleans so well it leaves the pores open to faster staining (that's my theory anyway). Since I trailer and only leave the boat in when overnighting I could wax the bottom when I did the entire boat before spring launch, then again when I waxed the entire boat for JOTJ every July.

Attwood hull cleaner works great, not as harsh as on/off.
