I know I blew a tire on 95 at 75 mph on my father's triple and we didn't even know until someone pulled up beside us and told us - we thought it was a bunch of drunk kids, but we pulled over and the entire tire was shredded to nothing.

Made me a believer in triples.

Like I said, they are cheap insurance and worth every penny IMO.

But when it swings out don't you block the other side of the ramp?I agree its good protection just would be afraid of another boat hitting it.

It rotates 270 deg, and pins to siderail of trailer. No blockage

I agree with Seafordguy. Triples are the only way to go. When I was younger I hauled boats for a living and always hated it when I had to haul a two axle trailer. When you loose a tire on twin axle trailers your changing it on the side of the road, not to much fun and not safe. With triples you can always get to the next exit. Even my 29 Fever trailer is triples. Just my .02 worth.

As for the drive guard, can't they become a problem on ramps that are steep then suddenly flatten? I only thought of this because of JoeD's trailer and having to wash off a foot of mud due to the length of the trailer.

Not allways true!!!!
My original triple axle had 3500 lbs axles with 14" tire that each wheel/tire was rated for 1.800 lbs
the new trailer axles are rated at 7000 lbs with 16" tires and each wheel/tire is rated at 3500 lbs

So in my case my new Tandem trailer will be a lot stronger tham my old triple..

What about tandem duallys? I saw John P has that under his Black Thunder. Seems like its the best of both worlds.

At low tide at one ramp I've gotten a little mud on the very end of mine, but were talking a handful of mud. But I guess it also matters what size of a trailer/boat we're talking about here. With a 30' boat at a 'normal' ramp, it should be a nonissue. On a 42 it would be more of a concern.

The problem I see with the tandem dually is you're in for some issues if you have a flat... Also, sometimes the boat sits high as well due to the inner tire. Never looked into the price on them either, but I suspect they could be more pricey.
