Those drives will last for a while. With that said, I agree with Jeff that Arneson's might have been the more reliable choice on this project, probably faster too.

That's gonna be one fast SOB either way!

I'm sure most already know this, but it is an existing boat that already had #6's for those thinking it's a brand new boat. Having said that I agree arnesons are the way to go.

Bill63, Also curious why Pete doesn't like the M8, isn't it just a beefier #6 with -2" X dimension? Same basic internal design right (but stronger).

main thing is gear ratios that are available with the M8 at this time.

I don't see how the 6 drive can survive an extra 400lbft of torque, even in a cat hull. He'll have to really baby them is all I can say. Even with that, sooner or later they're gonna pop.

Who has a Bravo style drive that can handle 1500lbft? SDS?

the 6 will have no problem with this power, look at the torque curve. turbo's are a different animal. 6 is rated at 1160, but can handle much more with no problem.Peter is a genious he know what he is doing.

The drives will not last, they will wear out. Yes they will technically work, just not last or give the owner piece of mind. But obviously the people who can afford these engines, can also afford new drives. They will prob both need to be rebuilt often anyways, and the owner will hardly put any hours on the boat.
