Default Need budget opinion...motors/drives

Looking for opinions on a realistic budget for a pair of bravos (drives only) and a pair of decent big blocks (454, 502, maybe 496) All used, but sub 200 hours maybe...

Drives = 4-5k for a pair
Engines depends more on what you get. For a pair, probably 8-9k for 454's, 10-12k for 502's, and about 16k for 496's.

U looking to repower the 24 with twins???

I would think 1500 a drive and 4-5k an engine should give you enough wiggle room in the budget.

recommendation, take and total all the costs detailed in all of the posts, divide that by .005. Multiply the new total by 1,000 and add a fudge factor of 1,000% and you will arrive at a total that reflects 10% of what it will actually cost. Sorry, I just had to after my last project blew up by a factor of 5 times X.

You think I can squeeze em in there???

Thanks for the replies... Looks like a fair budget on parts is in the $12k-$16k range for stock power and a set of Bravos. Of course that's without install or incidentals.

my projects
I re-did a 17' o/B race boat yrs back and said afterward, "If I sold the bare hull for a $100K, deducted for materials and divided my labor in to what was left I'd make .11c per labor hour!".

BTW, great post Jeff. Have been wondering same and I think the only way to consider what we both like.
Have a friend up north that bought a 30' Velocity w/twin big blocks thinking he got a solid boat w/one questionable motor and has done nothing but work on it the 6 yrs he's had it!
