Question A question for Lake Erie boaters…

I am considering an extended trip on Lake Erie over the 4th of July. Does anybody have any suggestions of where to go, and what to avoid. I’ll be pulling the boat from Colorado, so I want to make sure I have everything planned ahead of time. I was thinking of dropping in around Toledo, boating up to Detroit to check out metro beach, then down to Cedar Point, then Cleveland, and back. Your input is greatly appreciated.

The Casino on Kellys is always fun on weekends, also PIB. If you go to PIB be carefull not to get too close to the east side of the island (all kinds of nasty crap) either come from the west side or swing way wide on the east. Ime sure their is somebody on this board that can tell you where you can download some nautical charts. Also all of the marinas will be packed on that weekend

Got,

Let me know what kind of boat you have and what you like doing. I live in Toledo and put about 100 hours a year on my 28 Saber in the waters of Lake Erie. I can also tell you the best place to launch your boat and some of the best marinas.

BuzzinBye,

I've got a 32' Fountain Fever with twin 502s. I like the party scene and cruzing around, my wife likes to float, and chill. We compromise and do a little of both. We know some people in Detroit and Cleveland, which is why we want to visit these cities too.

Thanks

Im in Sandusky Bay as are lots more of us. You also might want to stop by at the sand bar (not a tavern) for a swim (accross from Cedar Point. Ill email you my cell number. We should all have ways of getting ahold of each other, you know, just in case somebody needs help or a tow or parts or something.

When you get up to metro beach, there is gull island and muscamoot bay, both big party spots, and gull island is good to overnight on. There's usually 10-20 boats that stay and have fires and party all night, and some families too. Both these places are about 5 miles from metro beach, and right next to each other for convienience. There's alot of nice restaraunts to eat at by boat as well on Lake st clair, and it's always nice and calm, never much worse than a 2-3ft slop chop, but usually 1-2's. Put in bay is a definite must-do place on lake erie, as well as the cleveland flats. But it gets real nasty water sometimes, or fun, depending on how you look at the rough stuff, but a great lake none the less.

Fever,

If you come to Toledo on the 4th, the LEOPA gang willbe assembled for the fireworks on the river in downtown Toledo. LEOPA is Lake Erie Offshore Performance Association. We have about 80 boats and 140 members at this time. All performance boats 24 ft and larger. You would be more than welcome to hook up with us for the 4th, everyone is very friendly and loves to have a good time. There are also a few really nice bars and restaraunts on the river whre we will be watching the fireworks. LEOPA has a trip leaving friday to go to Grand Bend Canada.
Put-in-Bay is a definate good stop, Kelly's island is also nice (a little more relaxed than PIB, and the Flats is always good. For any more info you can call me

BuzzinBye,
Sounds like fun. We will be finalizing our plans next week. I'll make sure to hook up with you if we are in Toledo on the 4th. I'll be in touch regardless.
