looking for 29-36,80 + mph, 50k boat

friend of mine is looking for that size boat, 29 to max 36 foot boat, running in the 80's mph, for roughly 50 k.

what did you guys see that fit these criterea?

Thanks for your help!

jeff32 07-18-2011 11:05 PM

forgot to say he needs a cabin for overnighting...

JasonSmith 07-18-2011 11:24 PM

My 29 Baja Outlaw is the boat your friend is looking for! Low 80'S, twin engines, cabin for overnighting, dialed in and ready to go on a freshly rebuilt triple axle trailer. Both engines are fresh as well as the drives.

jeff32 07-18-2011 11:38 PM

that is exactly the boat he has right now... what engines are you running?

rgrgoog 07-19-2011 05:55 AM

Twin Engine 29 Fountain from the earlier years like mine will put you there. Mine is not for sale though.

I think in the range he is looking, a 33 Powerplay is hard to beat.....

302Sport 07-19-2011 07:24 AM

Forget to mention you might have to go older with the PP to get to $50k but resale is going to be up there with a Cig as they are getting very hard to find

POWERPLAY J 07-19-2011 07:40 AM

33 Powerplay. There's one in classifieds

Jason, what is done to the engines to squeeze out 550hp? Who did the work?

Keytime 07-19-2011 11:58 AM

Any idea of the condition of that last one?

302Sport 07-19-2011 12:07 PM

No idea....

I'm pretty sure it needs interior from what I heard.

302Sport 07-19-2011 01:01 PM

So figure 5k for interior

fastscarab22 07-19-2011 02:47 PM

call rob at htg racing grand island ny , has 32 susnsation with fresh hp 500s in it nice boat,, has the truck to bring it to you

SS930 07-19-2011 03:46 PM

I don't know if OL is still sitting on that 38 Scarab or not, but if so it looks like a lot of boat/hardware for the money assuming it all checks out. At this point I suspect they'll at least entertain a $50k offer.

ReggieRaft 07-19-2011 04:58 PM

jeff I have my 35 lightning that runs mid 90,s . Great shape , new drives , full cabin , bimini top. trailer . but number would have to start with a 6

jeff32 07-19-2011 05:18 PM

I sent this link (OSO) to my friend Dave, he does not speak a word in english, but still can click on links for pictures, prices, and boat description!

Thanks for the fast suggestions!

jeff32 07-19-2011 05:18 PM

what year Reggieraft is your fountain?
what engines?

ReggieRaft 07-19-2011 06:27 PM

2001 with whippel charged fuel injected 509.s I think we ran together at a lake george run a few years back.

jeff32 07-19-2011 07:07 PM

you are correct Reggie! I remember you! we met at a dock after the run !

reliable those engines you have? ever had problems?

Captain YARRR 07-19-2011 09:31 PM

On these kinds of threads, inevitably people reply with mid-90s boats. I'm curious, is this a situation where you should just wait and spend more for a newer boat? Or would most people be comfortable with a nearly 20 year old boat as long as it has fresh engines and drives?

302Sport 07-19-2011 09:48 PM

There's a lot more to it than just age....I'm not going to name any companies but I'm sure you can go buy a 2000 or newer 35ft for $50k from a production type company, but its not going to happen with a boat built by a custom builder. Resale is always going to be better from a high end builder that only builds a couple boats a year. I would personally would much rather spend the money on an older higher end boat than a newer production boat that everytime you go out, you see 5 of them.

A well built older boat (90's or so, not sure how far back "modern layups" go) with proper maintenance is nothing to avoid. Love my 96 and it gets compliments everywhere. Of course some 90's boats are much more dated than others. I'd love to have a 90's Top Gun or bigger power play though.

302Sport 07-20-2011 06:22 PM

The 33 Powerplay lines will never be dated, true south florida style. The 33 PP is a thoroughbred that was born on the race course

I can tell you this - you would be hard pressed to have me get rid of my Cafe unless I was going to move up to a much larger rig. Certainly wouldn't spend the money to move up to something in the same size range just to get a "newer" hull.

jeff1000man 07-20-2011 07:30 PM

If he is just a little bit handy, he could build a cozy little cabin in the front of this one. If he was really handy, he could re build the whole interior.

Once you get up into the front, it is wide open, but ducking under the seats and dash is a bit tricky
