Lee's next race boat ?

Where did you see that old boat. I can't believe it still floats. Wonder if it can win it's class?

Lee 06-05-2002 07:36 PM

Hey Gary, I think you need to pick up one of these little Gems, Maybe even fit it with a lightbar and a couple of blue lights, Better check with your Lt. first though.

thats all i need to see, my day is complete now..:D

My father had one of those eggbeaters years back. I know they are Scott outboards owned by McCollough corp. They are three cylinder in line , three single carb , 75 hp models and could beat the pants off Merc and OMC because both of theirs were bigger( V4 or straight 6) and heavier. The first year for them they had indiviually adjustable low AND high speed jets on the carbs. This cause major problems with sync of mixture between cylinders and numerous melt downs(lean... like some of OMC's FI outboards) The second year they switched fixed jets and pretty much solved the problems . But like OMC, the stage had been set for their demise. I may be wrong ( after all I've slept since then:o ) but I believe that picture was from an ad or sales brochure for the engine????In any case I do seem to remember that picture from a looooooong time ago. I'd still like to take it for a quick spin.

That is what you call a REAL Classic....and I believe it is a tri-haul...or I'm sorry TRIMARAN

mopower 06-05-2002 08:48 PM

Oops , forgot....I think they are 1960 engines maybe 1961 ....by 1962 they were history.

mopower 06-05-2002 08:59 PM

Enticer, The Trihulls or cathederal hulls hit the market a little later than this picture if it the one I'm thinking of. This is a for real cat. My dad moved up to a 1964 Thunderbird (pre Formula days) and this was a "catheral hull" . Pretty nifty with a 75 Evinrude V4 only trouble they cornered like hell. You go into hard turn...bank... and all of a sudden the sucker would flatten out on you. Better be holding on! The only way around it was to drop the trim one notch. This was in the bad old days before power t&t.

Upon Lee's suggestion I contacted our Lt. He said I guy wouldn't be able to handle such power!!!!!!!!! but thanks for the suggestion Lee. Hope to see all the Lake St. Clair guy out this weekend. Going to be hot.

Catmando, It is a 1960 Powercat 1800-C Day Cruiser with Triple 1963 75hp Scotts.

Mopower, Right on with those Scott outboards, did you know that in 1960 they were working on a Experimental Scott R120. Supercharged, Fuel Injected, Four Cylinder Radial Motor. See picture below.

Gary, I'm sure all the boys on St Clair will be avoiding you like the plague:D
