Oh so the boat has since changed hands?? Thats a big small block...Just curious, we have a little build going on to try and run that 100 mark, but it is always a plus to see a similar set up doing it already.. Def sounded like it had a procharger on it.. Thanks

(I'm doing 76 on GPS.)

I'm have a laugh reading all of these go fast comments. I have a garman on my dash and run into guys all the time that say they do 80 and I walk away from them. The first thing I ask them, is the speed on the spedo or GPS, but they want to believe the spedo. I always wanted to put in more power but money and drive upgrades keep holding me back. Any more I just drive it like a normal boat and just wax the FAST guys when they come along and want to beat me. Every once in a while someone in a similar boat will beat me (usually cats) but I give them a respectible run for what I have.
Mine is a 97 28 Eliminator Eagle XP. 509 Whipple 6psi, aluminum heads, basically stock motor with XR upper, IMCO SC 2" shorty lower, 30 lab bravo. It runs 80 on about any day and 82 with the right wind/gas/payload.

Unitek 08-08-2011 09:50 PM

i drove my HTM SS-24 to 124.2 GPS on the limiter a couple years ago.. 1.24 drive / Lab 30p Bravo / 6200 rpm.

I was going to try a Lab 31 Hydro on it and Im sure it would have done 127 ~ 129 ish.

1000hp procharged 565

mighty mouse has a 440 cid EFI small block with a procharger,,rumor is it could produce over 1000 hp but i think he had it tuned somewhere around 800 hp..

The new owner?? i think Scott pearson owns it not or at leaste thats where i saw it last in some pics that were poseted..

another sick video of him..the boat only had forward gear and direct drive..

It made a bit over that on the dyno but in the boat the belt would not stay on in that setting, hence the 850 setting. At one point George was stuck at 103-104 @ 5,500 rpm ish. I asked him what the motor dyno'd at rpm wise and he said 7K so then run it up!! 113 mph then 120 then 124 at 6 something thousand rpm.

The boat was direct drive, no transmission. George said if you cannot dock an 18' boat by yourself you should not be boating. Chris Allard purchased the boat from George..

As far as hook or strakes, ? My boat has a narrow mini pad about 3.5" wide and 4 or 5 feet long, and a touch of hook that I think doesn't even contact the water once it airs out in the 90's. I'm not really a hull expert all I really know is I never had any positive gains from the box or shorty. I recently switched to 1.36 gears as a experiment in handling, sheared off billet vert shaft friday afternoon destroying the lower case as it cut its way thru and nicked up lower gears enough to scrap them, was actually a surprise as I wasn't pushing it at all, think I am going to just stick with the 1.50's, Smitty

Well if you need another one to dial in I have a project for you....I threw alot of HP at it, stellings box, shorty and a few props and it is still not even close to where it needs to be. I need someone with more knowledge.

GPM 08-15-2011 07:44 PM

When I was under a friends 1996 272 with a straight edge, it seemed like there were 2 different angles going on. The mini pad was on one, and the main section of the hull was on another. I'm guessing Baja did it to help the boat to get on plane with low HP. It looked like it would cause the boat to porpoise and create the need for the trim tabs. He could never run the boat flat out without the tabs. He sold the boat before we did any work to modify it.

Really let me know when you hit 131MPH in a single engine V.

Otherwise, Howard 28 Bullet is still the King.

Bringing this old thread out of dusty storage.....lol. Looking to upgrade on cockpit space to hull efficiency. Anybody have any hard #'s on a 29 Fever with around 700HP? I've seen threads from 77-82gps with 525. Seen threads from 71-80gps with 500. Talked to a guy tonight that had an 03 with 750HP and he said he saw 87 and probably had more in it. Any feedback from what kind of ride I'd expect in 3-4 ft chop and what kind of real world GPS #'s people have seen? Thanks in advance

VetteSteve 09-26-2015 05:44 PM

I have a 1996 27' Fountain Fever with 700 HP. Fastest I ran is 86.4 mph on gps. This year upgraded to BMax upper an fastest has been 84.3 mph on gps.

Scalded Dawg 09-26-2015 11:03 PM

Thanks for the info Steve! I'm really surprised a 27 with steps wouldn't be faster? I have a Imco Extreme SC outdrive with a 2" shorty on a Imco neutral box. It robs a little power like your Bmax but will take that for added insurance! Mine will run a solid 80 and 83-85 with perfect conditions. Anybody else with a 27-29 Fountain single with power have any input?

OSO 3s & 4's you do fine. Real 3s & 4s more like what sutphen 30 said.

43sv 09-27-2015 09:05 AM

A freind just ran 124 in his 27 Activator. Real fast

Scalded Dawg 09-29-2015 02:39 PM

Your right, real world 2-3'. Should I expect the Fountain to run better over my 25 Outlaw with extension box? Again my goal is to run faster, have more cockpit room without sacrificing my ride. Believe it or not my 25 does really well in rough water for a single. Better than a Sunsation or Nordic from riding in one.

I'm really glad this thread came back to life!
I to have been looking for something a little longer that will seat 4 in the back seat that runs a respectable speed.
I've gotten over thinking I wanted a supercharger sticking up thru the hatch so I've been looking at the 26' to 29' step bottom hulls that run 80 with a stock Merc-Racing 525 or comperable. I'm very familiar with the LaveyCraft from the Factory-1 days, and remember all the write-ups when the Howard lit-up the pages of Power Boat mag with their speeds.
I was thinking there were a couple of 288 Sunsation out there that ran pretty good and was surprised none were mentioned. So, are there any other names that haven't been mentioned that might make the list? Is the former Factory-1 28 Pantera a stepped bottom or straight?

I'm not for sure on the Factory-1 28 Pantera? Curious to know the same! I see you have an Active Thunder like my friend John Vineyard has. Very fast non stepped single V bottom boat!! I have ridden in the new stepped 288 Sunsation with a 502 and it was entirely too rough for me! I've never been lucky enough to ride in a Hustler 29 Rockit but I hear they are the cats meow in rough water and runs in the 90's with 700HP. Drawback is he wants 100K for one less power and drive which is way too rich for my blood. Uncle Dave on here responded years back with his Laveycraft when I started this thread and was very impressed with his #'s and reviews but have yet to see one in my area here in the ville. The Nordics ride to rough for my blood too. That's why I've been inquiring on the 29 Fountain for the money with a 525. I'm curious to see some more feedback on V bottom, stepped hull singles! It's apparent the catamarans are the fastest but I want a stand up bolster v bottom boat that i can comfortably sleep in. Bring on the feedback.....

SPITFIRE 09-29-2015 10:01 PM

Fairly certain all 28 Panteras are straight bottom.

My wife and I boat camp a lot on Catalina Island on our 29 NuEra Lavey Craft. It has 2 steps and runs 76 GPS on a Stock 575sci. It rides in the ocean well enough that my wife doesn't make me trade it in for a SeaRay or something. I only have a porta potty and it is comfortable for 1 or 2 nights. You won't find any closed bow Laveys around and if you do, you should jump on it. If you are ever in Los Angeles I will take you for a ride. Uncle Dave has a 2750 so between both of our boats you can probably get a good idea what you want if you were interested in a Lavey Craft.
