Chicago to Milwaukee this weekend

Tossing around the idea of making the trip from Burnham harbor to Milwaukee this weekend. Any suggestions on places to find transient slips, hot spots on the town within walking distance, precautions to take while making the trip??? Thanks!

FYI, this weekend is the Mich City, IN offshore races. Awesome time, food vendors, biggest boat racing teams in the country will be there. It is a really good time. If not, I know you can usually get slips right down town Milwaukee and the bars and breweries to walk to are a blast. Good luck!!!

Tried, but every transient slip in MI seems to be booked already, lol.

So what are the marinas of which you speak on the river???

Try Marina Shores in Portage, IN. I guarantee they'll have room, and it's only a short run to MC. Plus, a big group of offshore boats will be meeting just outside Portage at 11:45 Saturday morning to run together to Michigan City.

If you do decide on Milwaukee, McKinley Marina is the best bet...should they be full, try the Milwaukee Yacht Club. It's a bit of a hike to Water St, but it can be done. Or grab a cab.

The only real transient slips with shower/bathrooms is McKinley Marina. Lakeshore State Park has slips but not sure if they have bath facilities.

You will not be on the river and pretty much out of walking range for the action. Some river places you can just sleep on the boat overnight, but no showers. Milwaukee Ale House, Rock Bottom and others. You could get a slip at Skipper Buds (south side of river) with bath's but not much around except the Horny Goat and Barnacle.

North of Racine is Wind Point. Stay out from shore in that area, can get shallow quick.

Does anybody know how long it might take us to get from Burnham harbor to the Milwaukee State park by the Summerfest grounds? Where can I find out if the State park has shower facilities and where might the best place to gas up be?

Gas McKinley Marina north of the summerfest grounds. North Gap and right.

About 85 miles, a long ride if the Lake is rough.

Lakeshore State Park: NO showers or bathrooms. A porta john is 500 feet from the docks.

They have a couple slips left for this weekend but filling up quick. You can call and leave a message if interested. 414-274-4283.
