Sounds like the Sunsation would be the fastest boat in this size range with 525s.

Can anyone shed some light on Sunsation's bottom design and how it handles at high speed?

What about the Laveycraft Nuera 29 or 32?

They started building the newer step bottom 32' Sunsations in 2006 I believe....last year they built one with Merc. 600 SCI's and most recently built one this year with Merc. 700 SCI's with the NXT Drives....it has run 114 on GPS and from what I understand handles well. Call Joe at the factory and he can fill you in.

I find it interesting that the heavy Fountain 35 Lightning with [staggered] 525s seems to be the fastest boat in any size class with 525s (101 miles/hour) -- faster than any smaller, lighter twin-engine vee-hull with twin 525s.

As many will soon point out, the 35 Fountain is really a 32 foot boat.

Right. Nose extension and swim platform. I'm all over it :D

The 35 Fountain is staggered from 2007 on IIRC, but better double check on that date to be sure. There is no easier way to get to 100 in a v-hull of decent size that I know of.

So what if it has a cabin the size of most boats 33's, thats what you were looking for in the first place.

The Fountain and the Sunsation are very similar, neither has a ton of freeboard and both have integrated swim platforms, except the Fountain is slightly faster. I love the lines on the 35 Fountain also, its what I plan to try to talk my wife into for next year lol

While I realize I should take a ride in the boat, every time I ask someone whose ridden in a Fountain lightning, I'm told it runs like dogsh*t. Poor manners at high speed, a pig to plane off, etc. Not to get off topic - I thought I'd just mention it.

Take a look at powerboats tests of the Lavey 32 with the Teague engines in it.

Thing accelerated like a drag boat and posted huge top end as well 110+.

There is a finished 32 hull complete with no engines in the shop right now. I wish I had the space for it.

Agree with UD here. Lavey built 2 32s with TCM 800s and both ran over 110. They also built a 29 with twin 600 Mercs that I believe went 105 but not sure.

Next to that, my choice would be the Active Thunder. Their 33 would run over 100 with 700s/NXTs or Ilmor 710/Indy.

No staggered boats in that size range that I know of unless you go with a 35 Fountain.

Good Luck!

Uncle Dave 08-09-2011 08:58 PM

That was with Bravos as well.

Ilmor lets Teague sell the indy coupled with the 800.
That oughta haul the mail pretty well and last forever.
