Egmont Key - West FL.

Anyone interested in having a little get together this sat/sun over at egmont? I heard the weather might be a lil shifty in the afternoon , but the mornings are perfect. How 'bout it?:D

Hey Nick, what's going on, Buddy?
We're probably in for that, we're definately going boating.
My old man is coming into town for a visit and I'm sure he won't object.

Scattered T-storms for both days.

SATURDAY
SOUTHEAST WIND 10 KNOTS...BECOMING ONSHORE NEAR THE
COAST DURING THE AFTERNOON. SEAS 2 FEET. BAY AND INLAND WATERS A
LIGHT CHOP. SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS.

SUNDAY AND MONDAY
EAST WIND 10 TO 15 KNOTS. SEAS 2 TO 3 FEET. BAY
AND INLAND WATERS A MODERATE CHOP IN EXPOSED AREAS. SCATTERED SHOWERS
AND THUNDERSTORMS.

:D :D

Where do you guys usually anchor out. We usually go on this coast:

cuda 06-06-2002 11:13 AM

We are going to pick up our Formula 242 today or tomorrow. We plan on going out somewhere to get some seat time in the boat anyway, Egmont is a good a spot as any. Where at the island are you thinking? I'm gonna need plenty of room for anchoring, as this will be my first time with twins and separate throttle and shift levers. I damn sure not gonna try getting into Shell Island the first time out, unless I can get an icebreaker attachment for the bow.
:D
Debbie will probably want to run over to Passage afterward.:p

jokerswild 06-06-2002 11:23 AM

Hey nice job on the map:D either you had this map before or you're bored at work! which is it? Depending on the seas, we'll anchor anywhere where its fairly calm, but anchor around the broken up fort on the southwest end. Its deep water and i like skin diving around the broken up fort, usually get a good shot of a jewfish or hhead shark lurking in the dark underwater rooms. But Sat will be a definite! Lets hook up.

nick

jokerswild 06-06-2002 11:30 AM

BTW Cuda- there's plenty of deep water out there, no worries with running shallow like shell isl. We need a hook-up spot, and maybe do a run out to a bar/grill for some eats later on in the day...

CigDaze 06-06-2002 11:35 AM

Cuda, Ya I remember your post last week. Nice Formula, but you're psyched for the maiden voyage! Cool, We'll pretty much be where I indicated on the chart(about 100 yards south of the light house). It tends to be the calmest side(since the winds usually approach from the gulf-onshore in the afternoons).

It's a good deep water approach, and about 4 feet deep from land until about 50' out. Perfect for anchoring. It is also the least crowded side, I think, plenty of room.

Wassup Nick? Bored at work is the answer, I'm afraid...But that's short-lived. Haha

Saturday sounds cool, seems to be the better weather.

CigDaze 06-06-2002 11:36 AM

Speaking of shell key...I not sure I'll be going there much longer.
The last few time were near disasters. The channel is just too fugged-up lately...Too shallow and too many IDIOTS!

jokerswild 06-06-2002 12:27 PM

I hear ya-Shell isl. is only good for a quick stop if you're heading in from a long offshore day. But as far as i'm concerned, they can dedicate that north part of shell a bird sanctuary, and leave the rest of the islands alone.:p Talk to ya.

skatermike24 06-06-2002 12:33 PM

Hey Nick, who are you calling a IDIOT!!! :D

CigDaze 06-06-2002 01:22 PM

Sorry, dude...but that's how I really feel! :p :D
Just kiddin'....

Man, 99% of the people there fit that description just fine. Hell, last time I almost got smacked good twice. The time before that I did get smacked and the time before that(when I met you there, Mike) you remember what happened....

:D :D

cuda 06-06-2002 01:32 PM

Yep, last time I was at Shell Island, I ended up having to trench the sand to avoid some idiot who was looking at the beach instead of where he was going. Need to get that horn fixed!

skatermike24 06-06-2002 01:33 PM

Wish I could join you guys, working some ot this weekend , oh well!

cuda 06-06-2002 01:42 PM

Good spot Nick, there is a 90 foot deep hole not 30 yards off the beach there, and it isn't usually very crowded there. Sure hope the weather is better than it is right now, hearing lots of thunder and the sky is black here.

CigDaze 06-06-2002 03:17 PM

I'm keeping my fingers crossed too!

I work in clearwater and ya we just had a nasty one roll through...What about those storms last night, geez?

skatermike24 06-06-2002 03:41 PM

Send that weather this way, we need the rain!:D

Maximus 06-06-2002 10:04 PM

well

drive is still broken .new one on the way..should be sorted out next week..However my new Sea Doo arrived tonight and I'm going to have to break it in some how. Run to Egmont would be perfect.

Eastside - Westside Sat/Sun time.

Also OPBA has a Poker run going on this Sat (Adult Only) get's very risque.

Maximus

hey lookey there I just hit a hundred- Think I'll crack myself a barley pop.

CigDaze 06-07-2002 08:34 AM

Maximus,
It'll probably be the Northwest side, where I indicated, if that's cool with everyone else.

Saturday will most likely be the day. Looks like a high of 88 with P.M. T-storms....

SATURDAY
EAST WIND 10 KNOTS...BECOMING ONSHORE NEAR THE COAST

jokerswild 06-07-2002 09:53 AM

We'll see everyone out there sat afternoon- i heard the storms won't roll thru til the late afternoon/evening, and that's if it even hits that area!

What kind/color of boat will everyone be in? We will be in a red and white Formula 242, IF everything goes ok today picking up the boat. They still don't have my title.

baja27 06-07-2002 10:53 AM

Hey guys, I'm thinking about coming down there for the 4th of July. Does anyone go out. My mom lives in Palm Harbor and it seems like it would be a lot of fun down there. We usally go to the Chesapeke.

CigDaze 06-07-2002 11:35 AM

The 4th of July and Boating go hand in hand....We're always out!
The 4th is right around the corner, so is Palm Harbor!

CigDaze 06-07-2002 11:40 AM

Well, this is the fourth day in a row now, right around lunchtime, that it is getting black as night, thunder can be heard faintly in the distance and it's going to pour.

I hope tomorrow is an exception...

Sure, the storms pass quickly, but it's hell being in them or going through them on the water.

baja27 06-07-2002 11:43 AM

Are there some cool bars where you can dock to. Also is there any good public ramps?:)

CigDaze 06-07-2002 11:52 AM

Hey Baja27,

Sure, there's many and of all varieties. The intercoastal is filled with them.

"Gator's" in John's Pass seems to be a boater's favorite and another is "Frenchy's" a little north towards Clearwater pass. "Mulligan's" in Blind's pass is also a good time as well as the "Wharf" near Tierre Verde.

As far as ramps, I'm not really an expert as I high&dry my boat, but many seem to prefer Ft. DeSoto Park and Gandy. I really wouldn't know what's near Palm Harbor, though. I'm sure someone will chime in.

jokerswild 06-07-2002 04:09 PM

The crazy weather patterns of florida... i've been called out servicing equipment all week!!! Anyways, bajadaze is correct, there are many cool places to dock up to, also going north from palm harbour area is hooters on the water up in new port richey. Another good ramp to launch at is Maximo, which is located next to O'neills marina, good deep water and ok parking. I'm off for a afternoon icw cruise- see ya on the water...

Well, I got jammed on picking up the boat today. I called the salesman and he said, "Sure, come pick it up". When I got there, he got the guy from the dry storage to get it down from the rack. We went outside and the fork operator was on the phone with the marina office. Seems there is an outstanding storage bill on the boat, and they wanted payment before putting the boat on the trailer. I looked at the salesman and he said he would call the boat owner. Not only did he not want to pay the bill, now he didn't want to release the boat without a lein waiver from the bank in Md that has a loan on it. The broker has sent the bank a check he says. If it hadn't been for the storage fee, I'd be home with the boat now. Damn I'm pissed! And if you think I'm pissed, I was afraid to call Debbie and tell her about it. She called me just as I was backing the empty trailer at the house. She wanted to know if I brought HER boat home. When I told her what happened, she got so pissed she hung up on me! I'm telling you, that girl loves boats more than I do, if that's possible.

I have the interior out of the other Formula, so if we get out there tomorrow, it will be in my 18 foot open fish.:( I'll see what she wants to do when she gets home.

Here is what we may be coming in,:(

CigDaze 06-07-2002 06:09 PM

Damn Cuda!
Sorry to hear that, what a bummer! You must be pissed, looking forward to the weekend on your new boat....:(

In any event, if you should decide to bring the open fish, I still look forward to meeting you!

cuda 06-07-2002 11:36 PM

I think we should make Egmont a regular spot to go. The run across that channel will hold down the number of pontoons, jet skis, and the like. It can get downright scary crossing there in the afternoon with a strong outgoing tide and an onshore wind.

CigDaze 06-08-2002 08:22 AM

DISAPOINTED, YET FINGERS CROSSED AND HOPEFUL....

Good Morning everyone!

Well, It's about 8:00 as I type this and we are surrounded by BLACK! There was a drizzle not too long ago and quite frankly, the weather seems very confused and undecided. I have three different reports from therr different weather reports, but the general consensus is RAIN and T-STORMS coming and going for much of the day. But I'm still hopeful and planning on going out if I find a clearing in the cloud layer.

Cuda,
I know exactly what you mean. I've been making Eggmont our "place to be" on the water lately. Since Shell Key has thouroughly disgusted me of late. It's a good time at Shell, but a certain few have too good of a time...if you know what I mean. Secondly, I'm making friendly contact with the bottom way too much at Shell...When outboard flats boats get stuck, it's a recipe for disaster for an I/O offshore boat...I don't want to change impellers and repaint my skeg every week. LOL!

Eggmont's great! It's more family oriented, you find more experienced boaters there and you can get a lot of beach frontage when making landfall. And yes, it can take a special breed to make it across the channel on some days. All of which makes it for a good time!!! :D

Fingers crossed! Hope to see you guys out there!

skatermike24 06-08-2002 08:37 AM

Nick glad to see your ok , heard some nut jumped off the bridge yesterday!!!:D

Maximus 06-08-2002 08:59 AM

sunny now!!

I'll see you guys there

CigDaze 06-08-2002 09:32 AM

LOL!!! Mike.
Thanks for the concern, but though I had a rough day it wasn't me that jumped! :D :D ;)

Maximus,
Yup, sun's out now...heading out soon!

cuda 06-08-2002 08:13 PM

So, did anybody make it out? We decided to stay home and work on the interior of the 20 Formula. That was a hell of a storm that rolled through here. Hope nobody got caught in it.

Maximus 06-09-2002 12:21 PM

i did

Just as I pulled up I think I saw baja daze taking off twords the skyway (too rough to catch him on the jet ski). I looked for everyone....nothing but tarpon rolling.

Next time

Maximus

CigDaze 06-10-2002 08:21 AM

Hey guys!

Well, all I have to say is that though it was a nice ride out and back in, there were some REALLY NASTY stormy stuff all around us.

We made it out to Eggmont, idled and floated around for about half an hour looking for everyone, but when the sky turned angry we decided to make our way home quickly. Sorry we missed you Maximus.

The cool thing was that we saw a huge sea turtle swimming around and witnessed a large school of 36"-48" Tarpon in the middle of a feeding frenzy.

We made it in just in time to wash the boat down and flush the engine before the severe weather engulfed us.

Ahhh, Summer..............;)
