outboard gurus - input needed
 

thinking of buying a wrecked 31 fountain Center console w/ 01 225 opti's that werent oiled up when put away when boat when down, can i save these motors or are they history( plugs left out) and what are my options, or junk em and try to find 2 more and where can i find a pair of 200+ motors, aint got a lot of money to play with??

01 opti's were not verry good when new with salt through them probably junk.. PASS

If they were in salt, they're toast. I bought a salvage O/B the was in salt 24 hrs and then left to drive in the yard. I broke the handle of a 2lb hammer trying to knock the pistons out of the cylinders.
Even fresh water, everything steel or electronic is gone.
I'd also pass unless able to steal it. Could make some money back parting the motor assuming you can get them apart.

thats what My mechanic said. thought he was being devils advocate but deal fell thru anyway..it was 6 grand
