Any truth to a triple digit AT?????

I heard those 5 blade hydromotives are bad boys.

birdog 06-06-2002 06:43 PM

Wouldnt they be even tougher on drives than the 4 blades ?

Tejas Raz 06-06-2002 07:20 PM

Ditto,
Which one? What power? Can I borrow it?

BlueMoon 06-06-2002 07:29 PM

Last I heard, a correct prop setup was VERY important to top speed and performance.

KAAMA 06-06-2002 07:42 PM

Birdog, I would also like to know the answer to the question you asked about the 5-bladed props being tougher on an outdrive.

Ted G 06-06-2002 08:25 PM

If we use a car analogy then yes 5 blade props would be harder on the drives.

When you put slicks on a car and it begins to hook up hard to the road you begin finding where your driveline parts are weak.

Since 5 blades have more "bite"(traction) they will put more pressure on the driveline-especially the drive(s).

birdog 06-06-2002 08:42 PM

Yep.....Thats what got me thinking. Maybe 3 blades wouldnt brake these Bravos so much?

KAAMA 06-06-2002 11:54 PM

That's what I suspected as well---I'm running on the edge now as it is with my XR's and 704lbs of torque. I think I'll stick with the 4-bladed props for now. :)

26scarab 06-07-2002 12:02 AM

Jesse James,
I don't think the 6's are the fix all type of answer. Maybe for you guys with big boats it is but I think a 26 Scarab with a 6 hanging off of the back might just sink !!:D

I've been lucky so far though ,675hp thru a stock Bravo with a total of 200 stock motor hours made it thru 2 poker runs and about 35 hard hours.
I will be trying my XR soon so hopefully that will be good enough for me.
And I agree about the throttle arm does allot of the breaking . The splines on my prop shaft are still perfectly straight ! Guess I'm okay !

Stock Bravos

26 scarab
200 hours with stock drives and 675 hp, what about broken parts? Many? You really deserve a pat on the back for that!!What made you change drives, getting scared or are you adding hp?anyway, good going just wish that I can have that kind of luck! or skill:D :D :D

Thunder Dan's A.T. is being tested with K.E. 675 and xrs. They are presently dialing her in using different props, 4 and 5 blade. What the speeds are, Dan will have to anwser that, all I know is last week they had 600rpms to go and were into the low 90's, so 3 digits are in the horizon.:D The final testing and tweeking will be done this weekend.

ssherman 06-07-2002 09:45 AM

Catman I do have a thunder (99 32) I heard from the horses moth triple digits were seen in south FL.

thunderdan 06-07-2002 09:48 AM

We are still working on proping the boat out with the right wheels. The boat loves the 5 blades, it make a world of difference in the way the boat handled. I will keep you posted as we try different props.

thunderdan 06-07-2002 09:51 AM

Oh yeah, I also think the the boat will run very close to 100 mph with the right props. If I had the time I wish I could send it to lake x for a day to dial her in with all different types of set ups.

I am really hoping for 100 mph.

thunderdan 06-07-2002 10:09 AM

Troutly,

It is a good point, I am not sure if we are dragging a bit much or not? I am not sure, I wonder if adding a nose cone would help to reduce drag if that is the issue. I think we need to first dial in the correct prop then if we are not getting around those 100mph speeds look at the lowers, drive hieght etc...

Our prop test numbers were
91mph all over the rev limiters with plently of throttle left with 30 p labbed bravo ones,
87 mph 32p bravo i at 4900 rpms,
88 mph hydromotive 31p 5 blades, 4500 rpms

I am hoping that Pat can get his hands on 5 blade 28p hydromotives. According to hydro those should be the ticket.

KAAMA 06-07-2002 02:01 PM

I could be wrong, but from the way it sounds thus far I think you should hit the 100MPH mark without too much trouble.

thunderdan 06-07-2002 02:21 PM

I hope you are correct Kamma, what a Pain in the ass doing prop testing. It is a bit frustrating, for me at least. But I know, I know it is all in the set up.

Jassman 06-07-2002 06:27 PM

I think you are there, I think the nose cones might help and or boxes, or even the nose cones on the Extreme sc.:p Pat will dial it in this weekend, talk to ya later:D

thunderdan 06-09-2002 05:53 PM

Thanks for the pm's. Pat will hopefully have it dialed in on Monday, I will let you all know the results.

thunderdan 06-12-2002 08:20 PM

Getting a bit closer, tested some labbed 32's. Still with the 1:36 gears. We could only spin them 5100rpm's but got 95 out of them. Will keep you posted.
