trim tab mounting question
Why would you mount tabs flat with the waterline like this
http://traviscrossett.com/tabmount1.jpg over mounting them at the same angle as the hull like this? http://traviscrossett.com/tabmount2.JPG Speed? Water conditions? |
Mounting them Horizontle is more for how the boat flys when launching off waves going fast, it controls the front of the boat more Up/Down than it does keeping it level laterally. mounting them like pic 2 parrallel to the bottom is more for correcting listing like 2 BIG Girls sitting on the same side of the boat.

I researched this a bit and IMO mounting them horizontal to the water as in pic #1 makes more sense in my mind. Although my mind isn't quite right! It looks like the tabs in pic 1 are mounted a little high, but they are monsters for that size boat so probably work. Most of them I have seen are mounted more inward over the inner strake and at about the same height as the lowest point when mounted parallel to the hull. Hopefully that makes sense. |
Ahh, thanks that makes sense. It also let's me know which way I should mount mine.

I originally thought that angled would be the way to go since mine is a lake boat and doesn't spend all that much time in the air. After reading those threads i'm second guessing myself.
If you remember where you got the pic of the first boat post a link to the thread. Would love to read more about it. |
