New 2001 Checkmate 270 Convincor

Just traded in the 24 Outlaw for this. I absolutely love it. 2 owner boat, 502MPI and the rest of the basic stuff. A huge change from an Outlaw to this.

Congrats! Looks great, where do you boat?

matthewr 08-18-2011 04:50 PM

I boat on Ky Lake and Lake Barkley. Never really been anywhere else to boat. Where do you go?

Crossett 08-18-2011 04:57 PM

Wow, I would have traded as well.

matthewr 08-18-2011 05:01 PM

Don't get me wrong, there was cash involved lol. But overall I didn't get hurt and I'm not upside down in a boat now.

What's different? Give us your perspective.

matthewr 08-18-2011 05:25 PM

Overall just newer and bigger. Ride wise, they ride the same handling the bigger waves. Bigger motor than the one I had. And ever since I laid my eyes on a checkmate, I had to have one.

I wanted something with snap in carpet, very little wood in the interior and newer mainly. The cuddy is massive compared to my 24 outlaw, I can actually move and store things in there. The wife says it makes her feel safer so hey, I'm all about it.

Nothing wrong with my old outlaw just wanted to step up a bit.

Indeed, i'm interested in both checkmates and velocities as possible future boats.

The best weekend on the lake is coming up soon, the weekend of Sept. 10th-11th, the LC Poker Run. It's a don't miss event and like I previously mentioned the best weekend of the year IMO. Huge boat turnout and some wild partying both in Harmon Creek during the day and back at State Dock at night. :drink:

I was reading that one of the Marina's takes all there rental houseboats and keeps them docked at marina and rents the rooms out. Whats the details on that?

That is at State Dock, the host of the Run. It's called the 'boatel'. You have to be a participant in the Run to be able to rent one, even so they are guaranteed to be booked by now. Most other rental houseboats from other marinas around the lake sell out the day after the Run from people reserving one for NEXT year! It's by far the most crowded weekend on the lake every year. Don't know if you'll have any luck finding a place to stay this late but you can always sleep in that nice new cuddy. :drink:

Here's the info for it

Here is an aerial of Harmon on Saturday after the run from a couple years ago.

Good God man, thats nuts!

Congrats on the new Checkmate. VEry nice looking boat. I am sure you will be very happy with it. I have a 253, which is pretty much the same boat, yours has a different deck but the hull is either identical or nearly identical.

It rides really well for it's size and with the 502 it should run well too.

Baja 2008 08-18-2011 07:51 PM

Congrats on the new mate. I 2 just bought a mate,242. I took it out on Norris last week to test it and then hauled back to Cumberland. I will be out this weekend and def for the poker run. Everyone should make that weekend!!!!!

matthewr 08-18-2011 08:00 PM

Thanks guys. They are definitely a cool boat. I couldn't believe how clean this one was. Ive ran the boat a few times before I bought it and it scoots pretty good. We will find out this weekend for sure.

Bathtub 08-18-2011 08:39 PM

If you need a place to stat for the Cumberland Poker Run I may have a bedroom available on a rental houseboat from Burnside. We will be tied up in Harmon all weekend, pm me if you may be interested.

Congrats on the new Checkmate. It's always good to see see a fellow Checkmate owner in the Commonwealth. My dad keeps his boat at Kuttawa Harbor on Barkley, and we make it down to KY Lake a couple of times a year, typically for the KY Lake Poker/Fun Run, although this year was a bust. Hopefully that run will continue to be organized and maybe someone will step up and make it just as good a run as Mitch did over the past few years. We may make it down one more time this year, so just look for the Checkered Passed.

Congrats on the new boat, looks great. Also if u can make Lake Cumberland poker run it is a must do. We are sleeping on our boat. It's an awesome time.

gilltee2 08-19-2011 08:24 AM

Therapy, were you at KY Lake this year for the Fun Run? We tied up with a DDC in the quarry and I believe he was from IL. I think he said the boat was a former police boat from LOTO. He had put a lot of time in the boat from motor to the cabin. Just curious if that was you.
