Pinellas and surrounding area boaters:

Here's a little something I found that I thought might be cool checking out. Ya, it's a sailboat thing, but I think it would be kick-ass to see and boat alongside a 300' long extreme clipper naval ship from Brazil called Cisno Branco, or a 270' long Venezuelan naval sailing ship named Simon Bolivar amongst many other cool ships.

Here's the info:

Two years ago they were in South Haven Michigan and we went to see them. If you have the chance do it. While we were there, I got talking to the Captain of the True North, a 150ish footer. I arranged to have my wife work aboard the ship for three days while they sailed from Michigan to Chicago. She said it was an unbelievable experience. Several of the ships will take passengers as trainees. You learn to work and do various things on the boat. Great experience for kids and adults.

Dangerkitty,

The event will be centered in downtown St. Pete(Bay-side) near the pier and the ships will be moored in Bayboro Harbor(Harborage Marine) from what I understand.

Did a Coast Guard patrol for two days when they left Baltimore 2 years ago. WOW what an awesome site they are. When they are full sail the look even bigger. If you have the chance check them out.

Hey Nick!
Unfortunately I have a full work week ahead of me which means no time off.

I wish I could go out tomorrow to escort them in. Nothing would be cooler than cruising alongside these ships on a dreary Thursday! :D

We'll be out this weekend for sure. I have to do an oil change and play around with two loaner props, but this weekend is dedicated to boating! I'll try to get in touch with you. Let's get together for some lunch or drinks or something!

Thanks for the info from those who have seen this. I'm looking forward to it.
