Man Dies from Rogue Wave Aboard a 70 Ft Mystic
Came across this article in my local blog/online newpaper.
http://www.westportnow.com/index.php...ews_boat/#more Terrible tragedy. |
That's horrible.... Condolences
|
I remember that boat build.

Bad news.
Sick boat. 12' wave doesn't seem like a deal breaker in a 70 foot boat to me? It would definitely be uncomfortable but from the sounds of the story it really did a number on the crew. The article was vague though, maybe the hit it at speed, not paying attention? MD |

If you look the pics on the Mystic website, it looks like there is a retractable windshield (might be fixed?)...don't know that it would offer all that much protection in a situation like this, especially if you are not standing right behind it.

R,I,P Our condolences go out to the familys involved.

Well, if you look at the pic in the article there is no glass windshield.... so was that something added after the fact? I think a 12 ft wave coming over the bow of a 70 fter is enough to knock you out of the boat especially w/out the windshield. I'd like to see if I can find a pic with the windshield.
But how the hell did it get to that point? You see the layout of the boat, there's 35-40' of bow. Even the slightest bit of heads up seeing it last minute I'd think the boat should be able to brush a 12'er off no prob. I've crashed my 22' through series of 6-7' whale watch boat wakes before w/o issues. I'm not trying to downplay the loss of a life, it just isn't making full sense to me. MD |

I can't imagine the feeling w/a 70 footer. Very sad. |
That is awful. Amazing the power of mother nature. I wonder where he was on the boat that it swept him out. Two tragic incidents involving water taking those close to this gentleman. I would be staying high and dry if I were that gentelman at this point.
|
Very tragic, prayers to all the families involved :(

BTW - this was a very custom boat(as all Mystics are). I know that the whole roof goes up and down due to the fact that the boat needs to go under some bridges on its way back to its home. Maybe the windshield does the same. |
Condolences to all involved.

Sad story. Condolence's and Prayers.

[QUOTE=Gladhe8er;3485410]What's it looking like?
No visble signs of damage. I was far away though. It's pretty impressive looking. |
Very tragic and sad to hear. My condolences to the families and friends.

I don't think the water was that rough...Sometimes when you are out on the open ocean a big one would just pop up out of nowhere...
