Any ideas for removing this stain??

I had advertised this old steering wheel in the swap shop. Received payment from a member here (Our Scarab 34) and went out to the garage to get it and box it up to ship.
Before pic |
I get out there, pick it up......awe chit, it's stained!!!
I had sat it down on top of an old Poker Run sticker and my guess is that the heat and humidity made the stain transfer over. :( My wife and I have tried Swipes, Clorox and Magic erasers for the last three days with very little results. :( Before anyone says it, I've refunded Aaron's $$$ Anyone have any ideas before i throw the phucking thing in the trash? |

If your going to pitch it I'll take it:lolhit: , if the Magic eraser wont take it off I have no clue.

Laquer thinner. If that doesn't work, put it on your golf cart. Seriously, the thinner my take a little color out,but should take the ink out.
|
Gasket Remover very light then wipe off with water. Took out purple stain from a throw rug on my white vinyl.
|
try some stuff called Goof Off should be at any hardware store
|
white vinegar and sunlight or oxi clean and sunlight, clorox cleanup, wd 40. some inks are protein based so need something to break it down. then use conditioner on it.

Leave it in the sun for about a week.
|
Maybe try Spray Nine, it works great.
|
Mineral Spirits.
Maybe try hairspray or lysol, I know it takes off permanent marker. |
Run by Advance Auto; swing thru the rice-a-roni aisle, and stick a leather wrap on that bad boy. :D
|
i would try wd40 or carb cleaner but use the carb cleaner lightly --simialar to lacquer thinner
|
soak some bleach on a wash cloth. set it on the stain and leave it on the stain over night. the bleach will pull out the ink

I actually painted the steering wheel on my 98 formula. The paint I used was Rustoleum vinyl paint. Worked great.
|
After using all the aforementioned products, it will have dissolved the vinyl leaving you with the frame only and you're problem is solved!
|
You can scrape it and rub it with cleansers and magic erasers all you want, it won't help. The stain is not on the surface, it's soaked in.
Mix up a solution or dish detergent (like cascade for the dish washer, not the liquid sink stuff) and water in a bucket and soak it in there for a couple days. The soap will penetrate and it should lift the stain. |

BTW, Warshawski / JC Whitney was quite the experience--to walk through their retail store in Chicago back in the day. Is it still there?? |

Go to a dry cleaner and ask to buy a small cup of " Jinx Ink" its the only chemical that will break down the color pigments in the ink and remove it... all the other concoctions are just waste of time. I used to own a dry cleaners and thats all that ever took out ink

Ink

Try some brake clean on a rag. Cleans white rub rails to look like new.

I would let it sit in roll off, or soak a rag and leave it on there
