Boat fire @ LOTO

The boat that caught fire was a 48MTI that had a TURBINE MARINE engine explode and set the boat on fire.

teamsynergy 08-28-2011 08:26 AM

Ouch, is everyone ok? Didn't hear about it...

fountain4play 08-28-2011 08:33 AM

We saw their last pass as we were idling out from the races...My son noticed the smoke but you couldn't see what boat was involved... Too bad it was a very good looking boat....

Downtown42 08-28-2011 08:56 AM

Mary Mac new team and John Arruda on throttles. Not sure if all ok. Have not heard anything bad except some damage.

Might be time to think about a different turbine guy

There has to be a better way to stay in business than sabotaging peoples dreams.

teamsynergy 08-28-2011 11:02 AM

Jeff, We all know you have issues TM but c'mon... Chit happens... move on!

offshoreone 08-28-2011 11:12 AM

I find JBS comment interesting... glad to hear everyone is ok though..

JBS 08-28-2011 12:05 PM

Just sayin

Just sayin-there are no success stories from there that don't involve having to repeatedly coming back.of course I hope everyone was ok-stuff like this is devastating to the owners-hopefully they see the light

MissG 08-28-2011 02:02 PM

That's awful news - the Mary Mac owners are AWESOME!!!

Steve 1 08-28-2011 02:09 PM

There is no halon system's on those boats?

TENSION 08-28-2011 02:38 PM

So JBS, whats your record racing this year, since you don't have Turbine Marine holding you back?

Steve, you were reading my mind. Heck they were standard when I was building the 25s and selling them for $75k.

If the fuel pump loads the turbine with fuel and then it ignites it will blow flames and smoke from the exhaust and on to the hull. The halon system will not help unless the fire is inside the hull. Same basic thing happened to Geico last year in Ocean City. Hope Mary Mac can get fixed up soon and face off with Geico in Solomons Island.

Or in this case a "Fire Boat"...we saw the smoke while we were heading out and it was probably a little large for the small hand held extinguisher in the boat... After looking at the pictures it looked like it fared a lot better than I expected. They were very fortunate to have this happen when and where it did with the fire safety crews on the scene...

This is very true. A few weeks ago he was giving rides in the boat to friends here on the Bay. Had the fire happened then it could have been far worse.
