You can use it for many things, such as fuel stops, hotels, navigation, playing videos on it and other screens in boat, back up nav and gps, music, internet.

The only problem I have found with my dash mounted unit is if it is exposed to direct sun for long on a hot day it will go into protective mode just as a phone does when left in the hot sun.

And it does look and function great!

If you get the latest Raymarine which has bluetooth and wireless built in it will interface with Navionics on the Iphone and Ipad giving you an extra portable screen. As others have said an Ipad on its own is of limited use and a lot more fragile than a proper plotter.
