Mando alt from db electrical??
I posted a topic about increasing amp hr on my alts a few weeks ago, Many chimed in a stated they were running a 130-140amp alt from db electrical. I since have removed my alts and they are mando's. I have looked at db electrical and can't find the 130-140 amp hr alts they were talking about. Does anyone have any part#'s? Thanks..

I found a 65amp hr one but was wanting to increase to 130-140amp hr??
|
Switch to one-wire Delco.
|
If i do this, what do the other red and purple wire go to?? That is one hell of a boat....had ass triples! what kind of speed out of that??
|
|
Fred, did you do this on your boat?? Mine has the audio warning system and looking at the wiring diagram the other wires go to the cluster of guages, eliminating these wires don't hurt anything and everything works, they also go to b+ on coil as well as starter solenoid and other places??

Yes, but my wiring is very basic; not stock Mercruiser at all. My gages are mostly mechanical, with bus voltage for alarms.
Call DB; they can probably answer your questions. |
I personally dont understand the need for an alternator with that many amps.
|
Yes, tinman, that's a lot of amps to be pushing through a 10ga or 8ga wire. better to stay 65 amp and install a battery or two more.
I have to assume this is for a large audio system. Better to have a house battery or two. |
guys, I have two cranking batts as well as 2 house batteries and an onboard inverter that will run my fridge, microwave, tv, dvd, fans....and maybe a heat/ac unit when away from shorepower. The stock alt is 55amp hr and wanting to bump it up so I wont have any problems running the inverter and all accessories, The alts now are weak, when im running at nite, with all lights and accessories on, im down to not much charge, If i happen to turn on my docking lights im down to 12 or below! Thats why I have pulled them out and looking to replace/upgrade. Just looking into whats availiable.

Give Gus at Ohio Generator a call, he built a couple 160 amp alternators for me.They worked great on the ZO44 Corvette Boat (330)-323-5742. Theyare the best in the business.
|
Well stay away from the one wire alternators. They sense the voltage right at the alternator and not at the battery. Some take a few rpms to get started, some start at an idle. With fuel injection and I believe in your case, the three wire will be much better for you.
Call the guys at DB, they can probably help you out. Or give Gus a call as Scott said. A one on one with a good alternator guy is well worth the effort. Dick |
I had the alts tested today, one was good and the other was dead. That one alt is running everything, I ordered a replacement mando today for $86 bucks. 65amp hr. from db electrical
