Hudson River Raft UP

Good Morning All,

Was up on the river this weekend, couldn't ask for better weather.

Well here are some of the thoughts for this coming weekend. Any (well most) suggestions or ideas are welcome and appreciated. Please let me know what you think.

We are going to meet at the Bear Mountain bridge at 10:00am. On the south/west side there is a cove where we can meet up in nice calm water. I was trying to find a place to have breakfast earlier but the two places I had in mind, Bayview and Another point of View don't open until 11:30. If anyone knows of somewhere else I would be interested.
There are several people that are trailering in from out of the area that would like to meet up and run next to someone on the way down (or up) to Bear Mt. If you can help send me a reply back and let me know where you will be launching from.

At 10:30 we are going to head down to the final raft up spot as a group. "HotBoat" (from the OSO board) has a surprise in the works. I will not share at this point because it is not a done deal but it is important that we are all there and leave on time together.

The trip down should take about 40mins @ 65mph.

The final destination is going to be midway between the Tapanzee and the GWB on the west side (NJ). We are not sure how the raft up is going to work. Depending on the number of boat and water conditions we may want to tie up in smaller groups so that boats do not get damaged. The other concern is the water conditions during the time when 150+ boats go passing by.

The Poker Run is scheduled to start at 12:00. The last few years it has been delayed (its gotta be a bear getting all those boats organized) however, we need to make sure we are well out of the way and situated so that we do not interfere. It looks like we are going to have about 20-30 boats in our group and could be considerably more by the end of the week.

Another note; I would like to ask that we all wear life jackets and lanyards (if available) because its smart! Although we have no official affiliations with either OSO or the NYC Poker Run we are going to be a substantial group. We all represent the Powerboating community as a whole and need to act responsibly.

Thanks you,
Chris.

Shane:cool:

I thought that the group was going to watch the run from the TZ bridge? What caused the group to move south approx. 7 miles? I will be launching from Newburgh in the am. I will follow the posts and make a decision on what I am going to do, now that the plans have changed a bit.

Dave

Tantrum 06-10-2002 07:46 PM

Dave,
Paul (HotBoat) and I were talking about this the other night. Based on what we have both seen in the past we thought the boats would be a little more grouped and running harder at this point. It should only take us another 5 minutes down the river.
Im just trying to keep everyone focused on the idea and let them know we are going to be there.
Please let us know what you think.

dckrafft 06-10-2002 09:22 PM

My intent was not to "rock the boat". I am looking forward to meeting both of you and a few others that are comming from the north and west. I would just prefer to see the first few boats cross the "finish line" at the TZ bridge. I have watched this event for a few years at the bridge and honestly, I could count on one hand the spectator boats that have been there. Yes, you are correct that at the 1/2 way point they might be a little more bunched up, but from what I have seen, they are running just as hard at the finish. I intend to meet up with a small group at Newburgh, run with them down to the Bear Mt. bridge, hopefully meet you and everyone else then follow the pack south, but I will be stopping at the TZ bridge. If this is not acceptable to you or anyone else, or does not fit in with your plans, just let me know.

Dave ;)

Upper Hudson River group heading to raft up

We have probably 3-5 Boats leaving the Albany/Catskill area Saturday morning roughly 8:30-9AM heading to Newburgh to (hopefully) meet up with the 10 AM group thats leaving there. Anyone interested in launching or leaving from our vicinity let me know and we'll make sure we give last minute definite times and Location for departure. I believe we'll have a conservative cruise speed of approx 40-45mph. At this point I think we'll be leaving Catskill closer to 8:30ish. K, Cya

My email is [email protected] for anyone interested

dckrafft 06-11-2002 04:54 PM

Bo,

I will be waiting at Newburgh for you and your group. I will be at the launch next to Gully's.

thunderdan 06-11-2002 05:04 PM

Chris,

Looks like me and my son will be there. I will call you tomorrow or thurs to finalize some plans.

I'll be runnin' the 13 as hard as I did last year. I'll also keep a lookout for the raft ups and try and stop by! ;)

Prowler 06-11-2002 10:59 PM

Tantrum, we'll be one of the boats cruisin down with Bo. We wouldn't be able to cruise at 65 mph, unless we tow a fuel barge around with us,(engine starts to make boost) besides 65 mph is just about maxed out for us, right Bo?
Bo, if your reading this, the Outlaw will probably be back in the running for Sat.

Tantrum 06-13-2002 12:03 PM

Dave, I didnt take as you rocking rocking the boat. I asked for feedback and you gave it and you have a very valid piont. How close to the TZ do you think we should be?

Looking forward to meeting all of you SATURDAY on the river w/ the SUN SHINEing and 85 DEGREE weather. Keep saying it loud with authority and it will happen!

:D

Chris288 06-13-2002 12:23 PM

The good news is,,,,

The weather men are saying cloudy with showers in the 60's,, which if translated correctly means sunny, clear and 80's.....:D :D :D

If the weather is ****ty, I am going in at peekskill and meeting up with everyone at the TZ.

If the weather is NICE, I am heading all the way down to the city, to check everything out and then will be heading back up to the raft up just before the start.... looking forward to meeting everyone also.. Chris

Team V 06-13-2002 12:48 PM

We have a saying here in upstate NY...

If you don't like the weather, just wait ten minutes and it will change!

I've been keeping an eye on the doppler radar, I don't see any major systems heading our way? I know they keep calling for rain, maybe just a CYA.
Anyway, it looks like theres enough room on that river to dodge the raindrops.

Team V 06-13-2002 01:15 PM

Okay, whats the plan again?

Meet for raft up, watch poker run, and then??

There was a mention earlier about a fun run down to the city. Is it still on, depending on weather?

dcrafft and Bo, what are your plans after the poker run?

SHARKEY-IMAGES 06-13-2002 09:00 PM

I was considering asking Billy Frenz about maybe leaving earlier then everyone else. That start can get real nasty. Then I too would be able to see all the big boats at speed. I'll just have to keep off to the side...

dckrafft 06-13-2002 09:24 PM

Tantrum,

I think the the best spot for viewing the event would be right at the TZ Bridge. Depending on the number of boats we could have a group on each side of the "main span" structures. In addition to having the best seats for the finish line, as long as the boats stay to the side of the bridge supports, there is no danger of interfering with any of the participants.

bajadave,

I do not have any set plans after the run, I am open to any suggestions.

Bo,

We will have to adjust our meeting time at Newburgh in order to meet the group at 10:00 am. I will send you an e-mail also.

Dave

Shanghied Again 06-13-2002 09:34 PM

Chris, I believe the Tapanzee would be the best, Then we will know who got there first! Just my thought

SHARKEY-IMAGES 06-13-2002 09:36 PM

Frank, Are u going out Manasquan or Trailering up?

dckrafft 06-13-2002 09:38 PM

Chris,

Are you planning on meeting the group at the Bear Mountain bridge?

Dave

Shanghied Again 06-13-2002 09:43 PM

Tim Depends on the weather! If it is nice out the Manasquan, If it rains most likely trailer!

Bo 06-13-2002 10:14 PM

Poker Run

DAVE(newburgh) Our plan is to leave in time to meet up with you in Newburgh. If the scheduled departure needs to be modified we can still arrange that. Let me know what time you want to leave Newburgh so we can make adjustments asap. Thanks,
Bo

Dave

Bo 06-13-2002 10:54 PM

Rain?!?

I've been seaching different internet weather sites trying to find the one with most optimistic forecast. Sounds like 68 and partly cloudy is the one :) Well, I think we'll bring our helmets just in case. BTW: We did the Alexandria Bay Poker run in pouring rain..just sunglasses and a numb forehead :) Gotta love it!!

SHARKEY-IMAGES 06-14-2002 07:49 AM

ANY DAY ON THE BOAT RAIN OR SHINE, BEATS A DAY AT WORK!!! :D :D :D

Hot Boat 06-14-2002 08:30 AM

I just got finished working on my friends 30' Cobra Cat yesterday and we had a real great maiden voyage last evening. We'll be leaving the Newburg ramp next to gullies at around 9:00. Ill be looking forward to seeing everyone. the boat is white with red and gold strips and a merc racing logo on the side. Also look out for a Red 20' Nordic. It is my old boat but it's only the 2nd time the new owner has driven it. If you see him coming say back. LOL :D I'm praying for clear sky . See you all soon

Paul

Tantrum 06-14-2002 08:42 AM

Paul,
Glad to hear you got the cat together with a whole day to spare. I still have to get my engine hatch rams working so Ill be up all night trying to find the short.

It looks like the group is leaning towards rafting up at the TZ bridge. I like the suggestion (depending on how many boats) of tying up on opposite sides. It fits a NY/NJ toll-collector theme :D
This is how it looks right now;
Bear Mountain Bridge by 10:00
Leave for TZ bridge @ 10:30
Tie up and let the festivities begin :D

thunderdan 06-14-2002 08:57 AM

Does not look like we are going to make it, my boat is not ready. I was really looking forward to the raft up and meeting everyone. Maybe the next one. Have a great time and be safe.

thunderdan 06-14-2002 10:06 AM

Thanks to Chris it looks like my son and I will be there. Tantrum offered me and my son to ride with he and Christine. Thanks for the invite Chris and I will e-mail you later.

Hot Boat 06-14-2002 10:30 AM

Chris If I had the time I would be more than Happy To help you with the hatch, But I been so busy I haven had time to make the OSO banner. I will have it finished tonight. If you have the time , give me a call. Latter

Paul :)

Tantrum 06-14-2002 12:33 PM

ThunderDan,
No problem at all. We are looking forward to having you come along. I hope you are able to make it.

Hot Boat,
Thanks for the offer. Its an electrical deal so its either going to be quick and easy or go all night with many Rum & Cokes. Who am I kidding, the R&C's are going to happen either way ;)

Bo, Dave and group comming from Albany,

I will be at the Newburgh landing early (8:00am) since I have not had a chance to test out modifactions to my thermostat/bypass cooling system. I will try the boat out and see what happens. If all is well (no high temperatures) fine, if trouble, we will be quickly putting the old system back on and running without any water temperature. I will wait until 9:30am for the group then it's off to the Bear Mountain meeting.

Dave

sonic99 06-14-2002 05:32 PM

I pulled my boat this week to clean and had planned on putting it back in today in Newburgh, but with this rain will probably wait until tomorrow morning. We plan on going down to the start so we will either try to catch the group on the way or on the way back. 26sonic and I will be cruising in my boat...26 sonic with purple, yellow, and magenta stripes. Hope to see all of you tomorrow along with some sunshine!

SHARKEY-IMAGES 06-14-2002 05:34 PM

Are these ramps gonna be busy tomorrow or what?   I'll be doin' the same....;) :D

Hot Boat 06-15-2002 12:53 AM

Only 9 more hours. We'll be there rain or shine. See you at the bridge at 10:00 Am
