No way a boat with a 21 pitch prop(and 1.5 ratio drive) is going to run 70mph unless the engine is spun to at least 6000rpms.

Plug in the numbers and assume 10-12% propslip.

+1

when someone is telling me a tall tale about speed the first thing I look at is prop pitch. I even have the prop calculator page saved on my Iphone so I can blow up their story on the go

My 242 checkmate with that power and a 23 pitch prop ran 59 all day with an all time high of 62 on fumes. Had a guy just this year with a 251 checkmate same power, drive and porp tell me he runs 72....and he is a cop lol.

The eclipse is a great boat but likes to take water on thru the top and bottom deck seam on the swim platform. My brother had this boat for many years always a problem when hanging out on the boat

If the 454 is the standard MPI 310 hp there is no way you are going to see 70mph in either boat more like 57 in the Baja GPS. Maybe with a 502 415hp you may see 66 to 67 max. Like others have said, take a GPS hand held with you to verify. I would think the Baja would probably be the lighter of the two and both would probably have similar dead rise of 21 degrees. I would bet on the Baja to have a higher top end.

IMO

I had a 97 212 Islander with a 454. Low 60's is about the right speed. Not much v in the hull. Ride's hard it it's choppy out. Fun boat though. Ran it for 5 years with minimal problems.
